$50 usd shipping fee

Just have the knife sent to a CONUS addy( if you have friends, family here) and shipped from there to your addy by USPS.

exactly. $50 is too much, IMO, but that's Spyderco's perrogative - their reasons are valid as well.

I have only paid $50 for shipping once - for a custom knife as the dealer di not want to discount for USPS global express shipping instead of regular Fedex (which refused to ship a package declared as "handtools" - first time I've heard it). I wanted the knife, so I acquiesced, albeit reluctantly.
