I know the 500 Duke has gone in and out of the catalog over the years, but based on another thread, it looks like Buck has also discontinued the 500 Duke Eagle Scout knife as well, as they’re no longer taking any orders. Have we seen the last of the 500 Duke for good this time? What do y’all think?

think it's been mentioned before that it's discontinued. not sure if permanent though.
maybe its due to the stainless frame and bolsters, or doesn't sell well? I have no idear.

I actually prefer the 500 to the 112. one sits in a pocket well the other doesnt. one has stainless bolsters the other doesnt. both are kinda smallish for belt sheaths.....

but I'm biased so.......

I haven't noticed many for sale in the Bay either..But like all Bucks they can be found if you are willing to pay the price asked. I like it and had one years ago but can't remember what happened to it. To me it's a toss up between it and the 532 if you want a bigger dress Buck folder to slip in your pocket.

The stainless bolsters are nice, but I’d buy a nickel silver Cherrywood 500.

I love the 532 but to me it's not a great pocket knife. too long when it lays flat. 500 is superior to it as a pocket carry knife laying flat in the pocket. plus stainless helps dramatically on corrosion to the bolsters. you're a florida boy too. ya know what I'm talking about when i say this...... sweat saturated pockets when youre outside moving around.......

It seems like they knew it was over and saved the frames for Eagle Scout knives until they ran out.

I feel bad for any families with multiple Eagle Scouts and now they can’t give the new one the same cool knife.

On a side note I’ve always been amazed how many of these engraved knives are on eBay. How could you sell a knife someone had engraved and gave you as a gift?

I have a 501 that I WANT to love but somehow can’t carry just it. And I go right to my 110 when I need to cut something. The 501 just seems so thin. Is the 500 any thicker?

Well
Would you want to give a loved one a used item`??Only new will do.This is a shame!!! This is why you have dated tang stamps..
You never know how a item gets on flea bay.Just like how do you sell your fathers Purple Heart...
YOU CAN'T RELEY ON RETAILERS ANYMORE!!!

That’s to bad. To me the 500 is a awesome sized knife. The 112 I never really carry but do the Duke.

I called the sales department this past spring, and the answer I got was that the licensing agreement with BSA National to use the Eagle Scout badge had expired; Buck was trying to get a new agreement, and National was dragging their heels. This is purely a guess on my part, but given how strapped National is for revenues after the lawsuit (and after they added a $60 "National surcharge" to the $45 adult registration fee), it's possible that National wanted to raise the licensing fee. Since Buck was selling the Eagle Scout Duke 500s for substantially less than the price of the regular Duke 500s (without the Eagle badge or custom engraving), it's likely that Buck was selling them at cost and couldn't absorb a massive increase in the licensing fee. I'm hoping that it gets worked out: I have one, and I've ordered them for over two dozen new Eagle Scouts in my son's old troop. I have three more to order, with at least that many Scouts on track to make Eagle in the next year.

FYI. Spoke with Buck customer service about this. They said at this point there are no plans to bring the 500 back whether the plain knife or the Eagle Scout model. They said once they get the BSA license agreement worked out, the rumor is that they will make an Eagle Scout model with the 110 or 112.

Heck yes I'm interested

The knife is not here yet. It's been like 6 minutes since I ordered. 😁🤪

So the website has the bolsters listed as nickel silver and the description says stainless. Are they nickel silver like the rest of the series production knives?
