"500 Knives" Release

Mr. Cooper,

I saw the book...
Your statement, your problem dealing with it....

All the best,
Davids Darom (ddd)

Hi Coop,

I am sorry but I can't help myself...

With all due respect, my friend, I think that you should have read the
above part again before posting...

It does not shed any good light on you (for agreeing) and on John Jensen
and the publisher for going along with second bests just because they
were in a hurry to publish and decided that very few would care about or
know the difference.....

This is a very (VERY!) sad statement.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Mr. Darom,

Your above statement was uncalled for and inappropriate. Coop is constantly trying to move the focus to the knives and away from his photography. Coop stepped up because makers didn't see the opportunity to be published in a book that would see very wide distribution and at no cost to themselves.

Jim, your images are fine!

i love the fact that this book is part of a large and popular series of books showcasing other collectibles and that its only $20
i hope they print it in ten languages and sell a million of them.
great idea and effort.

The problem ive noticed here in NY, is that all the barnes and nobles around here don't carry the book and you have to special order it. I think it would be nice if they were just laying around for new people to pick up..

It's going to be way interesting to see how "500 Knives" proliferates, considering that Lark's "500" series of books is, as I understand it, a rather successful series.

Jon, did they have ANY of the 500 series? Curious if it's a timing thing.

I keep popping back into it and getting reminded of this and that, and also enjoying works I'd never seen.

Coop, for me the very best part is seeing knives I never knew existed, more than in any other knife book, period. It's great!

Coop, they had a few. Like beads and maybe vases or something..

I hope they start carrying it but since knives don't seem popular here we'll see i guess.

Issues of Blade and knives illustrated seem to stay on shelves and not really go anywhere.

I have a suggestion - actually a serious suggestion. Everyone on the forum should order one book each, if one can afford it ($20) and give it to someone he or she knows who is not necessarily a knife person, but appreciates handcrafts and/or art.

Who knows...........

Great idea. Even though I subscribe to a few knife magazines, I'll do the same with them...pick one off a newstand occasionally and give to a friend. This affordable book could be gifted easily, also.

:D:thumbup:Amen Don, great photos Coop! I have the book and really have enjoyed looking at It:thumbup:

Wow, I'm looking forward to picking up a copy. it's unfortunate that the cover looks extremely familiar to another collection of books I've seen.

The book is great. I actually think the 8"x8" format could be a benefit to a book like this. It doesn't take up as much space on a table as a "typical" cocktail table book. And it's priced reasonably. Finally, it's part of a great series from a player in the publishing industry.

Probably goes without saying that we all have high hopes that it will sell well.

Everybody should gift one to a friend during the holidays!

Hi Eric,

Thanks for joining in, and a nice welcome to BF. :)

Call Marthe, and see if she can get a copy your way pronto. I am certain you WILL be pleasantly impressed.

I think many might be surprised to find the acceptance that is received from people who are gifted this book. I have now gifted five of them and all five of the people were amazed at the types of collector knives that exist.

This book could really become more than we imagine.

When you are gifting David's (DDD) upcoming book (The World of Art Knives), please put me on your list. ;) :foot: :D

But all joking aside Bob, that's a very generous gesture and quite a service you are preforming for the custom knife community.

That could make quite an impact if more of us did the same.

I give out the Darom books to non-knife friends, the first three are available from Amazon for under $20.00 each....given an option of a book that explains the HOW, as well as the who, why and when, in addition to being hardbound, it becomes a no-brainer....I figure as long as we are each doing our part to spread the word, it is all good.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
