501 as a working knife

Yeah, if a 501 would scare customers, it follows that a 110 would be even more effective.

:D

Now let's get you signed up for the BCCI!

well, i went a slightly different direction...
but it should still make this crowd fairly happy.

picked up a buck 301 with black delrin scales today. Pics to come, tomorrow i hope.

just following up and letting everyone know. I forgot how much i missed my 301 till i sold it to a friend, then i had to get another :D

good choice! great size for what you need and keeping it traditional as well...let us know how that 301 performs for ya'...

sure thing sitflyer,

the old timer worked just great, but man does that thing rust in the Mississippi heat and humidity
thinking the stainless steel would be a nice change

It will...and the sheepsfoot blade can be a mighty fine slicer...the spey blades aren't slouches in the slicer Dept. either...and the sheeple don't get ascaired:eek:
as for my earlyer suggestion...that one was given to me and I hated it...so decided to "use it up" on the job...funny thing happened...it took everything I threw at it and came back for more :) good luck man...I think youre gonna like the 301...

just as an FYI
got to handle the small vantage today. It IS too small, even though the buck 303 is big enough (even though i went with a 301)
its the flipper, when the blade is opened, the flipper is in the way, forcing me into a (barely) 3 finger hold even though its 3 3/4" handle ....i think.

the 301 is just a perfect size. An assortment of blades, stainless and buck warranty..how could i go wrong? :D

Ya know.......it's been a LONG time since I had a job that required constant employment of the knife for cutting boxes, ties, bindings, etc.

It was a job where I had to move fast to stay employed.

What I just remembered is that all I had at that time was a "normal" opening pocketknife and after a few days my "opening" thumbnail was about ruined and a knife that would open with a "flip" would have saved me a lot of time.

So, that painful memory reminds me that one of these new-fangled "flippy" knives might actually have some practical application.

:)

Yes BG... That's exactly why that Odessey fit the bill for me... One hand extraction... Open, cut, close, and pocket... All one seamless and quick motion. All day long:) I worked in a distribution warehouse for 23 years... And abhored razor blade box cutters...many a back pocket was ruined by a partially open box cutter.

Yeah, I can see that......just haven't done it for a long time.

Ah.......retirement is the perfect life for me.

I have a gift for it.

:D

so i promised pics
and here they are

thank you.

i had a 301 in the past, but i worked a very different job then and i didnt need or appreciate what i had ...actually i finally gravitated to a 309 for that job.
now i am working a much more labor intensive job, a warehouse/retail position. I am constantly using a blade for something, opening boxes, cutting pallet ties, cutting twine etc etc and the 309 (which i brought to work one day as an experiment) will still work, just ...not as easily as a bigger blade. Now I am appreciating (perhaps for the first time) the uses of a bigger blade.

i think this is going to work out well ;)
