So, I own a like new Old English logo Pre-81 Buck 501with Micarta scales. It has to on bolster. Not etched or engraved but pressed cleanly in. Anyone have a good answer why?

If the number "2" it might indicate the knife is a "second" ... a minor cosmetic "defect" the inspector found.
(I have seen a few Buck "Seconds". I could not find the "defect" that made it a "second".)

It has the word "to" imprinted on the bolster, or the numeral 2? I'm trying to understand.

When Buck serialises a special run with over 100 pieces, do they start at "1" or "001"?

S Sampiana81 Have you asked Buck directly what the "2" signifies?
I am pretty sure they will tell you, if you shoot them an email.
