Why do you folks like 5160 so much?

Back in the early 80's I bought a Colonial Coyote carbon steel folder. It's a smidge bigger the Buck 110 I wanted, but cheaper so I bought that with the little money I had.
I used that knife for years.

I grew up with carbon steel knives in the kitchen, and there is still a kitchen full of them at the old farmhouse in the U.P. Not to mention the old forge where many carbon steel items were made. You should see the old chopper gramps made years ago!
Carbon is easy to sharpen and rather durable. I could put a good edge on it better than the other stainless blades I had at the time.

Fast forward to today, when I found these Buck carbon folders I had to have 'em. I have the 112 with 5160 I've been carrying and it's my favorite folder. It takes a great edge, and in time the blade may become as pretty as the old Coyote. Tho it will never have it's history.

For me, carbon steel is like a favorite old wool hunting coat.

Thanks.

it's possible. whether buck would do it, youd have to ask.

Probably not. When I sent my oak 5160 110 in for work, they said the stuff they use to clean the blade would take the etchings off, so they swapped it out for a S30V blade. I’m guessing they don’t have the 5160 blades just laying around.

I didn’t complain. :)
