Well the good news is that the steel I had before was not 5160.The bad news is when I got the new 5160,I got in such a hurry that I messed up my plunge lines. I got a little discouraged but decided to forge out another. While i was waiting for my second blade to anneal,I thought maybe I should at least try and harden the first blade.I threw It in the forge, waited till nonmagnetic and quenched it.THANK THE LORD ,IT WAS HARD!!!!! So i drew a blue color across the spine and a straw along the edge.I am very happy with the out come, and the next blade I will take my time so that i can post some pics for all to see.....Sean

Post a pic of the new steel too. Take note of the edges, they are probably rounded or as rolled. Like I pointed out in your previous post, this is not definitive but can give you a good idea that it probably is 5160.

Well that's got to feel good. I know I always feel better when I find out I'm not as big a screw up as I was thinking.

Thanks A.C. I see what you were talking about(rolled).Bill you should be getting that piece of steel any day now.I know its not 5160 but maybe you might know what it is.thanks....Sean
