I thought I was gonna be helpful, but my 3" wide stock is 5/16" thick. Sorry. Got mine from a local leaf spring manufacturer that sells to the public on Saturday mornings.

Yeah, check out leaf spring places first. If you can't find something within easy driving distance, you might wanna try Atlas Spring & Axle in Wichita, Kansas. I got a smallish bar of wide 5160 from them a couple years ago on a tip from another knifemaker. Their number is: 1-800-362-3175.
I have gotten this suggestion in the past, but around here at least, it isn't that easy.
"Spring shops" per se are hard to find around here. And when you do find them, they aren't too crazy about selling you a little bit of steel. They are set up to sell the springs as a kit or as an installed part and don't want to break it down for you.
Junk yards have tons of leaf springs, but older stuff is hard to find and they also want to sell it to you as a part, not as scrap or salvage. Most of the leaf springs are left attached to the junkers, and unless you are willing to take your own equipment to the yard to disassemble the car, you can't get any steel.
