5160

Knives are Tools.(ok some are Art)
I have one Dollar knives I am Happy with, lots of under a hundred Dollar knives that I am Happy with.

I expect Tools to preform within their Design Criteria.

I expect Knives to be able to do, what the Maker Say's they will do the way the knives come from the Maker.

5160 can be made into Great Knives and 52100 is a "Magic" Steel Compared to what was available 30 years ago.

I got involved in this Thread Based on my Personal Experiences With Busse Knives and SwampRat.

I no longer Own any Swamprats, I do have a 5 knife set of Throwers that I think are Differentially heat Treated 5160, Pretty Great knives, and a Few others as well.

Take Care of 5160, keep it oiled and Clean, it will take on a Patina and likely last your entire life and the life of your child as well.

You will sharpen it more often, and there is Not a Thing Wrong with that, a Fella Should sharpen his knives, use them till they need Touched up and then do so.

I have Lots of Carbon Steel knives, My Busse knives make up a small Percentage of the knives I own.

The comparison of leaf springs to knives isn't necessarily a good one, if the intent was to claim that leaf springs hold up well to corrosion over time. The pitting found on leaf springs can be quite severe if applied to a knife, when you consider that the thickness behind the edge can be as small as .020" thick. 1/32" of rust build up is .032" thick. I've seen plenty of very rusty springs, rusty enough that the edge of the knife/axe would have been completely obliterated by it were it found on an edged tool.
