My friend, Larry (Griz 1918) was in my shop last week and convinced me to try making my own Micarta type handle material. I cut up an old pair of Carharts and glued them up with fiberglass resin. Very messy, time consuming, and maybe a little expensive with the cost of resin so I am not convinced that I should stop buying Micarta and make my own handle materials. I am going to miss those old Carharts too:grumpy:
Stock removal from 3/32 52100
Heat treated in my shop to 59 Rockwell C scale using digitally controlled equipment
Flat grind with a Scotch Bright finish
Home made Micarta type handle
Overall length: 7 1/4 inches
Blade: 3 3/8 inches
Leather scabbard with a belt loop that can be worn left or right

I just looked at those photos again and don't let the green color fool you, it is a reflection from the tree I was under when I took the pictures. The color is more gray and brown.
