Up for grabs is my last Bolo Machete

What is a Fell Beast you ask?

The Fell Beast is a new hybrid breed of machete that I've developed specifically for use in hardwood forests where extreme durability is required and failure is not an option. It's a heavier, more powerful machete designed for everything from clearing blackberries to felling hardwood trees. The Fell Beast is tough, fast in hand, and with proper technique, will out chop any tool in its weight class. Made from 52100 steel with a spring tempered spine and 58RC edge, they will hold up to extreme use where other machetes chip, roll, or suffer catastrophic failure. As always, they are warrantied for life against breakage.

I will take the Bolo if it is still available. If you will email me your address, I will get a USPS MO in the mail to you tomorrow. The standard that I got from you is awesome. Send to weststevenr@yahoo.com.
thanks

Thanks VERY much. Your machetes are very well thought out and really do a great job of wood processing. I am thinking that the bolo may hit a little harder - besides that, they just look so good. I will get a MO headed your way in the morning.

You have plans to make more of these? I like the classic for its light 20 oz weight (1 lb 4 oz), and I'm curious if it's possible you might make a version with a handle that is slightly down-turned at the end, like the Busse Fusion or Bhakta's East Meets West Special? It seems that kind of handle style is becoming more common, probably due to the good sales they get. For example, the Golok is Condor's best-selling machete, and the handle makes it very comfortable to swing repeatedly for chopping. It's a paradoxical combo of less friction AND more control, which leads to much more secure retention (no flying machetes).

Straight handles are more suited for thrusting, or bidirectional slashing with a double-edged blade. Since a machete is normally only cutting on one edge, and this particular Fell Beast Machete is designed for chopping hardwoods (not back-and-forth slashing), it makes sense for the handle to not be symmetrical, so it can emphasize the edge-down chopping motion.

Also, it might be possible to literally shave off some weight by using a magnetic or vacuum fixture for milling the blade into a triangle shape. That way the blade will still have the full thickness along the spine, but it will be lighter. I've forgotten what that blade profile is called, but "saber grind" seems to be coming to mind. I'm also thinking of the Mora knives that have that shape for only about half of the width of the blade, but I've forgotten what that is called too.

You might have to reduce the width of the blade to get it closer to 16 ounces, but that would be fantastic if it could be done. If it looks like a heavier and longer version of the 9.8 oz 12 inch Svord Kiwi Machete - kind of like an exaggerated bolo - it would still have plenty of chopping power, but would be light enough to be the only knife on a backpacking trip, and it would be fast enough for wispy grasses, vines, and foliage, without a billhook, karambit, or sickle.

What name would you give to a machete like that, if you made it?

I have what I'm calling a "True Grass Machete" on the way; made from .070 AEBL with a very classically shaped straight blade and handle. It will be a true machete that is lightning fast in hand, designed for clearing trails and brush. Ill have a small run of them in this summer. They will probably only be sold as a blank without handle scales to keep the pricing down. Goal price will be $129 with shipping included and they will be warrantied for life like all my blades. This may be more along the lines of what you are looking for.
