What method and temps do you guys use to get a hamon with 52100?

Quenching fluid? olive oil, ATF, water ?

thanks:)

52100 can be heated with a torch along the edge until it is nonmagnetic and quench the entire blade. This will give a nice curved hamon that follows the edge. If you heat the entire blade and quench just the edge you will get a straight hamon line. I like to quench in Tough Quench from Brownells but many other oils will work.

I'm going to be grinding this to a "0" edge, post heat treat. Other than the obvious of not getting it too hot while grinding, anything to watch out for with 52100?

Nothing to worry about. Its like any other steel in that respect. Dont let it change color, Dip it often. Show us how it comes out.

I've seen nothing! But for what I didn't see, did you reveal that crazy hamon with etching or polishing stones? Among things I didn't see, it looked awesome.
