530.. Your Thoughts & Impressions..

I am going to have to learn allot more before I buy a Rift. I do really like the black and white swirl handle with a plain or light gray blade. A plain non coated clip would be nice also. The 530 is a keeper. I may try some black heat shrink tube on the thumbstuds since I have extra and a heat gun in my tool box.

When Rift was released, I was "on-pause" with buying knives (something I'm trying to practice now), and just used my regulars for a while, so unfortunatly I don't, & never did own one.. The design looks superb, but for some reason, I never really "had to have it." Just personal preference, for instance, the 810 appeals to me more beacuse of that tactical look lol

Regarding the 530, if you do try something on the thumbstuds, post some pics. I am by no means a maker, or customizer (just a user), so I would be interested in the process ;)

My 530 flicks open as fast as my 940 does which is a plus, and like you said, it's tough to scratch up this design ;)

For the Rift, PE/un-coated would be the best, and if you can *find the CF version, go for it. There's always the custom scale option too, for the more personal approach ;)

The CF/"Clear" Cerakote M4 2013 Forum 530s seem to show up regularly on eB@y. They're substantially more expensive than when they were first sold, but the quality and materials are absolutely top-end, maybe Gold Class. Worth the money...IMHO, YMMV...

Will do .. Please let me know if you decide to part with one of those Osborne 940-121's !!

I saw the Benchmade 275 Adamas Folding Knife w/ Tan Handle but could not find one with a satin or non-black blade. It looks pretty sweet also.

;)

Considering it took this long for them to produce a 940 in something other than S30V, it might be a while lol.. I'm weary of change as much as the next guy, but c'mon! New steels & something other than aluminum offered on production model 940's!!! - rant over ;)

The 275 is a tank, the only gripe I have with the tan model, and what I didn't realize when I was buying it was the painted scales :barf: Other than that, it's rock solid!

Painted scales? Along with the blade coating I would not be happy either.

After looking around I saw a similar 940 and what they are selling for. That's way out of my reach. But they sure look sweet.

Do you know who is the easiest to work with, on this forum, for customizing assistance? I lost contact to my buddies in the tool room when I became disabled.

You might want to check out Keyman & deathofallthings work - they're custom stuff is in the pro level of scale-making, and I've heard nothing but great things regarding their services..

I'm sure others can weigh in here for more custom help, hope that helps.

After reading here that a few people didn't like the cupped axis lock nubs, I decided to try swapping the axis bar with the one that came with my mini grip, which had already donated an omega spring to my 940 only a few weeks ago...

The stupid washer-like things under the spring [looking down at the knife] are just too big for the hollowed out portion of the knife handle scale. If I ground it down I have no doubt that it would fit perfectly, but I don't have the means to do it right now... I'll upload pics if I ever manage to make it work.

Per a post in another 530 thread the Axis lock bar from the 960 fits the 530 with minimum parts modification. The 960 is almost as thin as the standard 530 and thinner than the CF 530 version. Considering though that the 960 is a discontinued model good luck in finding the parts from one w/o destroying the knife.
