I bought a 535bk-4 on eBay. The production date is 10/6/21 and today 10/19/21. It’s been in the mail since the 15th of October. Does that seem right, or should I be worried about a fake? Seems to recent of a production date for a knife stamped first production.

That’s the risk of fishing the bay…

Get it from an authorized dealer? Post some pics.

Call Benchmade and ask if they were producing it on that date. It is a new Bugout that was released maybe two months ago.

Im looking at mine right now and I wonder if you can also ask Benchmade to check your serial number on the box. I’m not sure if there’s been enough time for the fakes to have made it out in the general markets yet and I’m not sure this model would be one they would take time to fake. I can see them going through the effort to fake a normal Bugout because of its huge success but this is a very specific limited run model. It’s not out of the question but I lean towards unlikely, especially this early. Unless you bought it from somewhere coming out of the Far East, then there’s your answer.

There's only one country in the Far East that carries on a mass product counterfeiting industry, and that is CHINA.
We all know this. There's nothing politically incorrect is stating this. Other countries in the Far East are also being victimized by this practice.
Would appreciate not painting the whole region with the same brush. Thanks.

Agreed, in trying to not be politically incorrect by not naming China, I made a more politically incorrect broad stroke. However, will I now receive a message from someone from China that is offended??? And to think I almost used “East” instead of “Far East”. Crisis avoided.

I just closely compared mine to your pictures and everything looks exactly the same. All fonts, all placements, all lines and bevels, etc. If it’s a clone, we are all in trouble. Not a clone in my humble opinion.

Thank you very much. In this day and age of everyone and their collective mothers getting offended over anything and everything, yes I do understand the difficulty of traversing the minefield of "making a statement".:)

I have 2 of these, 1 first production and 1 regular. Both bought in person at authorized dealers. Your knife looks 100% legit to me. I've heard that 1st production aren't necessarily the first knives sequentially that come off the line, but Oct date seems real late, like they found some first production marked blades laying around the shop and built them up. Mine are April and may dates.

That's odd. I've got an 8/11/21 -4 that does not say first production on blade or box.

One thing I thought of though was Benchmade was having trouble getting DLC so they switched to Cerakote. Maybe this was a first production blade that caught up in the DLC lag time and was assembled later.

How about a picture of the inside of the box? If the foam "cradle" wraps up onto the sides of the box: it's a good sign.
And that knife is GORGEOUS!!

I have to agree about the -4 being gorgeous. It's even prettier in hand. I've had serious reservations about EDCing and using mine, but I like to use them all. The sunburst milling, beyond being beautiful, also adds fantastic grip that isnt too aggressive.

Gee... It would probably look pretty nice sitting next to my customized Mini-B.

BladeHQ is selling them for $189 at the moment. That's a smoking deal on this knife since it's usually $234. They also have their exclusive G10/20CV Bugouts marked down a lot. Their exclusive M4/natural G10 940 is also on sale. I'm trying to resist on that one since I've dropped a lot of coin on knives recently.

I don't see this knife on their site. Can you post a link please.
