The last of the Bog Oak just came back from getting stabilized and have been added to the store. These are extra large blocks that can yield 2 handles for some knives. I will do all I can to get more of this wood. This wood was carbon dated and is 5460 years old.

Back when this tree died the Great Pyramids and Stone Henge were still under construction. There were even Mammoths running around the place.

Click on the photo to go to where they are located in the store. The flash from my camera made these look lighter than they are in person. They are more like dark gray and black.

I just finished a big camp knife with this wood, and I think it's a gorgeous material! I have never used anything like it. I used it on a sort of "brut de forge" type of knife, but I'll be using it again to go with damascus.

One note of caution, I got a bunch of the dust in my sinuses and got really sick from it. I am not saying this to deter anyone from using it! Just a note that I think this wood is like some like Cocobolo, Rosewood, etc. in that the dust just does not agree with some folks.

None of those woods bother me, but I know some guys that get sick from using them. This oak is that wood for me. Some of you guys could probably snort a pile of bog oak dust up your nose and be fine, but I think it's worth being careful with.

After I had been sick, I came back and did some reshaping on the handle I used this for, but was vigilant about wearing a mask and I was just fine.

This stuff is gorgeous and can be worked out to a glass-like finish.

Plus it's got a super cool story to go with it! :)

Nick,
I think you are allergic to Mammoth poop. They were still alive when this tree died. I bet one went on your block.
I am looking forward to seeing how the knife looks completed.

A note to everyone.
Wear a mask when grinding/sanding anything.
Any wood fibers, g10, micarta, steel will cut your lungs/ sinuses if you inhale them.
You just don't notice as quickly as if you have an allergic reaction.

Paper masks barely do anything. The single layer ones only block big chunks.
3m makes some better multi layer masks but you are better off with a real respirator type mask.
