560 regrind

IMO the factory grind is excellent, so I'm not sure about the marginal gain you'd get from a regrind, as opposed to polishing and reprofiling the edge. But if you want to personalize it, go for it.

Regrinding and edge reprofiling are not the same thing, just to clarify for future reference. The key thing being that a regrind will always involve a grinder, which is a piece of equipment that the inexperienced should stay away from. Reprofiling can be done manually with stones and guided sharpening systems - all it involves is coarser grits.

:grumpy: I just purchased a 0200 I wanted to have him do a regrind too..... How are you guys contacting him? I can not find a website.

Is there anyone else that does re-grinds??

Thanks
Search Richard J on here he does regrinds as well

Thanks big time I was looking for a grind just like you had done to your 0200. I do like the grind Krein did to the 0200 but I like that with the grind on your knife you get to keep the DLC coating. Just sent him an e-mail hope to hear from him soon.

it's a great regrind job for sure; but don't call it a ZT because it sure isn't that anymore.

the only time i could justify a regrind is on a well used-up blade man; you don't like recurve blades why waste money to get one in the first place?

That's just silly, of course it's still a ZT, what else would it be? A customized or modified ZT, sure, but a ZT nonetheless.

As for why, maybe he liked the other attributes of the knife, abbé he had an extra and wanted something different, or maybe he just plain felt like it.

Wow. Just...wow.

Not all ZTs have recurves, so why wouldn't this still be one? I never said I didn't like recurve blades, I have a lot of them (Spec Bumps, Offset, Lahar, 350's, Shallots, Blurs) and I like them just fine. I can sharpen recurves easily with paper wheels in seconds, so that's not an issue at all. I also have a Wicked Edge though, and it's easier to sharpen my knives on it if it's not a recurve, otherwise I'd have to get the different stones. Besides, ZT doesn't make the 0200 with a non-recurved blade. If they did, I'd get one too.

Is it maybe because I chose to remove and leave the thumbstuds out? I don't use them on the 0200. ever. I'm going to do the same thing to my 0400 (also a recurve, btw) when I get it back from getting it stripped.

I do things, or have things done to my knives because I can, because I want to, and because it makes me want to carry them more. I could have had the regrind done to keep the recurve and just thin the stock behind the edge, but that's not what I wanted.

Why waste money to get a different-colored scale? It doesn't make the knife cut or carry any better. It might make it more visible when you're trying to find it, but why waste money on a dark-colored knife in the first place? Why waste money on a titanium-handled version of a knife that you can get with G10? Why spend hundreds of dollars to make a linerlock into a custom titanium framelock? See where I'm going with this? And that's just knives. Don't get me started on taking out a brand new engine and dropping in a stroker motor...every season. Lol, I also have that sickness and it's worse than my knife addiction. Do it because you can. Other people might not see the logical reasoning behind a lot of the things we do, but hey...different strokes...

yes, but the point in the handle near the hole sometimes gets in the way. i'm gonna take it to the grinder and round it out.

Here's what I did to mine yesterday: Reshaped the blade, followed by a bead blast and stone wash. Touched up the edge on a Spyderco Sharpmaker. This thing could be the sharpest knife I own now;) And I own a Fellhoelter Kwerk that could pass for a scalpel:D

Can't wait to get into a load of cardboard:)

Is this an easy process to do? How???

Ferric Chloride AKA PCB Etching Fluid (available at RadioShack). Mix one to one with water (always add acid to water, not the other way around), let the blade soak in it for 2 10 minute cycles, then rinse with hot water and clean with Windex to remove/neutralize any remaining acid. If the wash isn't as dark as you would like, you can repeat the process as necessary. Lightly rubbing the blade with 2000 grit sand paper after you are finished will allow the pattern to "pop" more as well.*

Your disclaimer scares me a bit  Have you ever done this? Does this help with corrosion resistantance at all?
