I was browsing through the Benchmade listings on KSF and came across a 565-1, listed as upcoming, which I haven’t seen mentioned before. Basically the classic “-1” treatment — S90v, carbon fiber and colored spacers (red in this case - not blue).

Looks like a nice upgrade.

Looks nice. Does anyone know if this is a production add on or a 1 and done?

Almost here! I know, it's expensive and conservative maybe design-wise, but I can't wait to get one...or two. Just looks to be a classy piece to me, but not seeing much buzz about it anywhere.

Was really wanting a mini of the regular. As in, same scales and blade.
This should have been a limited run or put into the build your own design option.
Carbon fiber with s90v is everywhere.
Please give me a true mini.

Well ... There IS a true mini - the 565.

Haha.
That is true, however, if it wasn't clear as to what I meant, I want a mini of the super freek version.
You know, black and crimson scales with M4 steel;)

I like this version. First thing when I picked it up was wow that’s pretty light and the carbon fiber has that comfortable feeling. Wish it was 20cv or M4 but oh well.

No, we are no longer numbering first productions. Limited editions however will still be numbered.

Why even mark them first production? Makes them sounds limited when, theoretically, they may not be limited at all. Brings me to another question. I have dozens of Benchmade knives and have been collecting for 20+ years. Last year I was speaking with someone at Benchmade and they explained the concept of the limited unlimited gold class knives. They told me that the gold class Bugout would only be made last year. They are still on your site today. I get that you might have made millions of them and are just selling what you made last year, but this seems very sloppy from a marketing perspective. Why not just do a limited number, or not suggest that they are limited? Seems like Benchmade could continue selling them for the next 20 years, and this would be Benchmade's right, but it seems misleading on the marketing front.

how mad would you be if you finally saved up for the gold class bugout that’s limited unlimited and they ran out before the year was over. They wanna make sure everyone who wants one can get one that’s why they make them in batches. There are always gold class knives that roll over into next year just like automobiles. Local knife dealers usually discount them too when the year is over.

I'd be fine with that. Spyderco sprints sell out in 60 seconds sometimes and people deal with that fine. Increasing production efficiency should easily allow them to not have month 5+ months worth of knives leftover.

Also, I recently bought the 940-2001 and, while it says limited on the box and blade, it's not limited to a certain number. What does this mean? I totally understand the idea of wanting to be able to generate excitement by advertising the knife as limited, while also wanting to reserve the right to make as many as you want, but this seems like very rookie marketing. I certainly mean no disrespect, and wouldn't comment if I didn't have very extensive experience in marketing. It seems to me that it would be a better approach to be more transparent. While I know with certainly that Benchmade has a lot of great people, I think that there may be an issue in the marketing department.

How are you figuring there’s more 940-2001’s out there other than the 2000 they made and the prototypes? Got a couple family members that work for BM and the way they explained the limited unlimited is pretty transparent. They will keep making them for the year they are being sold in till people quit buying them. If they have some left over at the end of the year oh well..... do you expect them to destroy the excess? That would drive prices up.

If it’s not in full production it’s limited. Just like a 2020 F150. You only have so much time to get it before the 2021’s come out so therefore it’s limited. There may be some left over at the end of the year but I wouldn’t call it sloppy marketing. Every market is different and knife people get angry when the miss out lol. I’m still searching for a gold class valet since I missed out. I tried to wait till the next year when they would be discounted but couldn’t find one.

Thanks for your opinion. Would love to hear from Jimmy on this.
