58mm pocket knife?

After losing my classic I recently picked up an Alox mini champ to replace it, but it just seems a bit much to ride on my keychain. Heading out the door yesterday I grabbed it off my dresser and dropped it in my front right pocket, and it later donned on me...why do I automatically assume the smaller Vics belong on my keys? It covers a lot of needs in a minimalistic fashion, so why not always carry it in a pocket? Anyone else or are the 58mm Vics strictly keychain SAKs?
I'm with ya, I dont put anything on my keys and have a hard time understanding why theres such an insistence on keychain carry of tools or gadgets, if it's important and useful enough I can keep track of it and remember to carry it without attaching it to something else.

My grandfather carried a classic as his only pocket knife and used it for everything, I never knew him to carry anything on his keys but maybe a Sears 4 way or spark plug gapper for his old GMC pickup.

I have put things on my keys and found that it kept me from using them, but loose in my pocket or otherwise and they saw regular use.
My keys are not the first thing that pops into my mind when I need to see something cut something or turn a screw.

View attachment 1323269 The Bison Designs Key Caddy lets you quickly attach or detach tools from the key ring. I can make these up for my daily anticipated néeds, but I don't like to put a weighted key in an ignition. Too much can go wrong. So my key is separate, and the tool caddy is in my pocket when driving.

Many years ago, I tried carrying little knives on my keys, because they were considered ‘keychain knives’. There were various ones at different times. A Classic, a red Spyderco Ladybug, a Buck Mini-Buck. The Ladybug actually stayed on my key ring for years, because I nearly ‘forgot’ about it; its fading red handle was used mostly to make it easier to locate my keys with little effort. But when they were on my key ring, I never really used them. IMO, the whole point of having a tiny knife is compactness, extra lightness, etc. I hated having to pull out my keys and having them hanging on the knife whenever I tried to use it. So I long ago quit carrying knives on key rings.

I think many people want everything in one place and not spread around so they don’t forget or lose anything. So they prefer their little SAK together with their keys. Many years ago, I gifted some Classics to family members, and my brother and his wife are the only ones who still carry theirs, and theirs are on their key rings. But that’s OK; I’m happy they’re still carrying and using them. But I prefer an SAK carried loose in the pocket.

Jim, you're sooo right!!!!

All those years I carried my classic in that leather pouch sheath on my keyring along with a Fenix E01, and other things, I thought I was being so clever and efficient. It wasn't until I got an executive, that was just a wee bit too heavy for a keyring that I stuck it in the watch pocket of my jeans. The following weeks I saw an increase in how easy to access and use my little SAK and convinced me of my folly; just because an item is keychain size, doesn't mean it should go on a keychain!

Then the purchase of a new car with the all plastic key with imbedded electronics and now I don't carry anything on my keyring. When I come now and hang my car key up in the utility room at the entrance to the garage, the only thing in my pockets now besides my wallet, is a small revolver, executive, Fenix E01, Bic lighter, hand sanitizer and 2 bandana's.

I find the small items like SAK and Fenix are always down at the bottom of my pocket, so I don't really have to hunt around for them. They're always in a predictable spot and its nice not to have to disconnect anything, just take out and use it.

My 'loaded' keyring is a thing of the past.

I carried the Classic for decades before replacing it with the Ambassador. I never once thought to put it on a key chain.

My Manager was a fun whittler today.
