Is there some difference between 6.5 stag and any other kind of stag? I don't really understand, but I'd like to! Thanks!

Sincerely,
Anthony

Hi,

6.5 is bone jigged to look like stag, other companies call it Winterbottom bone. New isn't being imported into the country right now.

The 6.5 looks really close though:).

HTH:):D.

Anthony,
From what I've seen in SMKW, 6.5 stag is jigged bone colored to look like stag. It does make for a nice looking handle material, but IMO it doesn't really look like stag.

Alex

would the difference between bone and stag be that stag comes from antlers? I'm ashamed to say I've always thought this, but I'm not completely sure of the answer! Thanks for the insight though. Does this mean that 6.5 is just Case's way of differentiating their process from other makers, or is it that there really IS a difference? Thanks!

Sincerely,
Anthony

For simplicities sake, yes:).

Over the years, companies have attempted to pattern bone after stag(various jigging, etc...). Case's 6.5 is just their own jigging process:).

bone is bone!!! its usually taken from the shin bone of cattle. stag is antler!! the 6.5 in question is bone that has been heated, almost to the point of burning, to color it (Ive done it myself). You can take a piece of bone and heat it up, burning the outside, which will give it the different colors resembling stag. The reason its called bone stag is because its bone made to resemble stag. :)
