What would be more useable and economic , a 6 , 9 , or 12 inch disc sander ? I would think a 12 but how hard is it to find the sanding disc and the variety of grits available . ? Don`t think you could make your own sanding disc like you could for a 6 or 9 inch .
thanks

I would (and did) go for a 9", because you can use regular sanding sheets and cut them to size. 12" sanding discs are expensive.

I have a 12" diameter on the side of my Powermatic 6"x48" but I haven't found any ceramic disc's for it yet and I can't use standard sheets of paper without seams or butt joints. Blue zirc disc's are the best I've found so far for the 12". Blaze disc's are available for the 9" or as tedinatl said you can use standard sheets. I made a home-made 9" disc to use with the face plate of my wood lathe, works OK after-a-fashion and the lathe is variable speed.
