I know, I know...yet another posting asking for suggestions about what knife to get.

In summary:
I'm looking for a fixed-bladed knife, full tang, stain resistant steel, 5"-7" blade, with an extended tang (optional).

Purpose:
All-around use in the yard, garage, and home. Potentially for self-defense, if necessary.

Preference:
No Bark River (had a few of them and did not like)
Price range - preferably less than $200

Ideas so far:
Gryphon M35 Combat/Utility
SOG Seal 2000
Fallkniven S1
Fallkniven A1

Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks!
Mike

Check out the RAT RC6. It isn't stain resistant but you can't go wrong. Plus the blade coating prevents most chance for corrosion.

You know the test between that chris reeves $300 knife and the $50 buck 119 special proved just how tough that little buck is. just a thought...

The Gryphon is a pretty nice knife...dont hear all that much about them. Looks like any of your choices are pretty good.

Scapper 6 as always from me... Toughest Knife I have ever used!!!

the Gryphon M35 Combat/Utility should be great. but i had never hold one.

Seems like the Gryphon is one of the best values for the money.

May give the Buck 119 Special a look though...

Thanks!

A couple of different suggestions than you might get here....I am more old school...lol...

Ka Bar Union Hunter
Canal Street 1873 Bowie
Marbles 6" Ideal Stag
Fox Knives 6-3/8" Hunter's Bowie

And if someone sees you with one of these they won't think you are mall ninja either...:D

You cannot go wrong with a Buck 119 - a whopping $34 at Wally World for the 6" multi-purpose knife. For a more 'tacti-cool' black 6.5" blade knife approach, and a really stout blade/tang at that, even if the handle can come apart, consider the Buck 650 Nighthawk - ~$60 mail order. Both of these are in highly serviceable 420HC steel. Both fared well in the u-tube destruction tests.

Finally, at the top of the tacti-cool ladder in Buck-dom, is the Buck/Simonich 895 Raven Legacy - a full tang S30V blade with G10 slabs. Pricey at $175-$220 mail order. Check them out at the Buck site... then get to a Wally World to get a Buck 119. They also carry the 655 Nighthawk, a short (4.88") but serrated bladed version. You can get a 'feel' for the style and handle fit & feel of the longer (6.5") 650, which seems harder to find these days. All of them, the 119, 650, 655, & 895 were made in the USA.

Good luck!

Oh....forgot...if you want one that will cut faster than a frog fart you can't go wrong with the Helle Safari. The blade is a bit shorter than you had mentioned at 4 3/4 inch but it is the laminated blade which sandwiches a layer of hard higher carbon alloy between two layers of tough lower carbon alloy and has a Scandinavian grind. Very easy to sharpen and the steel holds an edge very well.

Why are half of these replies for blades that are not stainless? Sometimes people just don't listen....

Get a Busse.

But seriously... A1 or S1
