I've been battling with keeping this one for myself since I finished it, but the simple truth is I can't. I've ordered so many supplies recently that I just can't afford to. Alas! Always a knifemaker, and never a knife owner...
I was lucky enough to score a piece of this steel. You don't see it offered too much, anymore, and that's unfortunate. Crucible CPM-S60v is a great stainless steel, being one of the original particle metal alloys, and is a derivative of 440c, with a heap of additional vanadium. The PM process and the increase in vanadium makes for a pretty darn resilient steel that is also VERY stainless. It's original name was 440v, and was used for years by a lot of manufacturers. Takes a great, sharp edge and keeps it, too!
This blade is in .300" thick stock (THICK!!!!), with my beveled and hand polished spine, and black rayskin under the resin-soaked tsukaito wrap. I've left the mill scale finish on the flats because I appreciate the contrasting textures and finishes when used in combination. Just adds a bit of interest, I think.
I've added a layer of material under the rayskin that has a slight bit of 'give' to it and is gently contoured. It offers a more hand-filling and less 'barstock covered in wrap' feel, and I think it is going to become a standard part of this design. The ultrasuede-lined, mahogany-dyed, bison leather covered aluminum sheath makes this an easy carry piece, with a lot of versatility.
Price: $OLD via Paypal, shipped to anywhere in the continental US. Contact me for shipping elsewhere and we'll find a way. I'll absorb all Paypal fees.
If this sells, I'll be sorry to see it go, but if it doesn't, I certainly won't mind keeping it!
Thanks for looking, gang.
