Can you give me some input on the differences besides wheel size of the 6" and 8" bench grinder? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Mainly I would like to use them in knife building from using a cut off wheel to grinding and polishing but also need it do other things like sharpen mower blades.

I have never owned anytype of bench grinder and your input is appreciated!

I wouldn't really recommend using a bench grinder for knife making. That being said, I'd get an 8" grinder since your wheels will last longer.

i got a 10 inch grinder and its ok for hogging off material and stuff. sure it isnt a belt grinder but it might have some use.

Thanks for the responses.
I have a belt grinder for shaping and fine tuning the blanks so no worries there. I just wondered if one was better or more suited than the other for hogging off material and stuff.

Using a 8 inch grinder you gain 6.280 inches per revolution. At 1750 RPM that would be 10990 inches per minute of stone cutting metal. I just had too. LOL

the only thing i would use a grinder for is paper wheels. instead of using the grinder with cutting wheels, i would get a 4" grinder from harbor freight. they run less than $20. and work much better. i use one for profiling my knives and they work great.
