I found a bunch of 6"x256" at the surplus store, after a little searching I found that you can still get these belts new (for a pretty penny) but I couldn't find any examples of the machine that would run these. Has anyone seen one before?
I was thinking if I could get these cheap it would be fun to build a big machine for them.

They could be run on a machine like this.

my brother worked in a casting plant when he was in college, And they had several grinders that used big belts like that, he said the favorite friday trick to pull on the new guy was to set a large soda cup full of water on the belt up under the guard so the operator would get sprayed as soon as they went back to work

send them to econaway abrasives to be split and rejoined for a 2 x 72 and you would have belts for a couple years

I agree with the Count, surplus belts are alot of times past common sense date for the glue joint, or have been poorly stored resulting in bad joints. Nothing like getting whipped by a fresh 2x72, oh wait yes theres getting whipped by a fresh 3x132" running at 3450 rpm with 5 horses behind it.

These 20 ft. belts are run over a contact wheel on a buffing arbor with a back stand idler to tension the belt. Just a little large for the home shop.
