Got your money Dan. #3 is yours. Is the Paypal address ok? I'm working at a polling station today and will drop it in the mail when I get a chance. Thanks, I hope you love it.

#1 is SPF.

I am about to do a run of these. If you would like to preorder one to your specs let me know.

Thanks Jason - it was operator error on my part with the Paypal address, fat fingers or something...can't wait to get this!

Phew! Today was a busy day for me (not election related, fwiw) and I was so disappointed to miss out on the sheepsfoot that I almost didn't bother to read down the thread.
I would be very interested in one of these because the copper finish looks very cool.
Can you do a hawkbill profile? I do a lot of pull cutting (string, twigs).
Thanks for keeping hope alive!

Although I've never done a hawkbill I could give it a try.

I'll put the preorder post up soon so everyone can chose what handle materials and blade designs they would like to have.

hawkbill would be awesome. or a tanto point for a thick and sturdy tip.

can you do these a litte thicker then 3/32 ?

I can do them in any thickness. I chose 3/32 because thin slices best.

I have the following steels/thickness in stock: CPM 154CM (1/8), 440C (1/8), ATS-34 (1/8), 1084 (3/16), AEBL (1/8), O1 (3/32).

Hawkbill and tanto models to come with the next batch.

I'll defer to your expertise on the details and if you like, I can send you some pix of hawkbills I use around the house.

Looking forward to the next batch !

If possilble maybe you can include a few out of 1/8 CPM stock ? Just that little bit extra material for a blotched cut

Blaise, I'd love to see some pics of what you like.

I HT my own Carbon Steel but send out all my stainless b/c I don't want to overstress my oven, so that means that Stainless models will have a couple week longer turn around time. I hope to have a few blanks cut out tonight and ready for heat treat so they will hopefully be ready for next week. I forgot to add that I also have 1/8" 1095, so I could make those pretty quick as well.

Shoot me an email of the pics of hawkbills that you like to use to give me an idea of what you like.

or maybe that 1084 with DH treat and a hamon.
so many options.
really am looking forward to what your next batch looks like. will you start a new post or reply here ?

Hi Jason,
(I don't have my own pix handy, these links will be close enough for now)

I only have 2 hawkbills, so I don't consider myself a connaisseur, but I find them really handy for opening boxes, ripping through tape, string, etc.
Since I have small hands and a slight build, I get the sense that pulling through the cut requires less effort.

The opinel is small and delicate:
http://www.opinel-usa.com/proddetail.asp?prod=opinel-pruning-knife-No8
and the dimensions are similar to what you executed so nicely with the sheepsfoot.
I hate the locking mechanism and the blade is really thin, so I baby it a lot.
It will also rust in the blink of an eye.

The Tasman is just a beast:

They say H-1 comes from Japan but I know it's really made by elves. It relishes abuse of all kinds, but it's a little bulky because of the folding and the sweeping curve. It also looks like a weapon so I only use it at home to avoid freaking people out.

Honestly, I think like the profile of the Opinel better because it has a straight section and then it curves, so you get a little of both.
I would welcome other opinions and experiences.

Blaise
