Well, I finally picked this little beauty the other day. I've been a fan of the Rukus and it's little cousin ever since they were first released, but had never pulled the trigger on one. Now, in the year they're being discontinued, I finally did it.
How appropriate that the year they discontinue the model and come out with their first assisted-opening Axis locks that they should decide to make this beauty--a fusion of both. That's right, folks. It's an AO Axis Mini Rukus!
The knife snaps open with way more authority than any blade this heavy should...and it's smooth as silk! The black and blue micarta scales are done as a single slab, unlike the dual-scaled micarta and G10 original. As I'm sure you know, it's a real beast of a folder! I found it interesting that they chose to do this one in 154CM as opposed to the original's D2.
The knife came shaving sharp out of the box with a light coating of oil on all the surfaces. The blackened furniture really makes this knife stand out, I think! Double-thick liners, an open back for easy maintenance, and thick contoured scales for a secure grip.
The AO has the same safety as Benchmade's auto-axis folders.
No problems with alignment, either! I know a few folks have had complaints about crooked blades lately, but not on this one. No blade play in either direction.
All in all, a very nice package! I think that if they produced this as a standard model it might get more attention. It's a really slick piece of work, and I can't wait to put it through its paces!
