6235 1/2, my current lust!

So, lately I've been considering adding a Case 6235 1/2 to the mix. I really like the looks of them, the size seems to be about right for me, and I like the blade combo. Is there any discernible differences between the XX Era ones and the later ones? Some of those mid 70s, and earlier, jigged bone models are stunning. The Delrin from back then seems really nice too. And then there's the "Gum Fuddy" ones that are their own kind of cool. I'm sure I'll be happy with whichever one that I end up with. I'm not looking for a perfect specimen, because I can't see it not being a user. I guess I'm just rambling, and looking for some opinions on the knife in general as well as the different variations. -Lance

I had to look that one up. That is a great pattern. Some nice older ones I’ve seen. Maybe Mr Campagna has some & will post some nice older Red Bone ones that we drool over :)

A stout Case knife built with old time quality. The only issue I've had with this model is the pen blades are often thumbnail busters to open. OH

Great pattern ... I've always liked the 6325, but that pattern must have a devoted following & never been able to get a deal on one. I had my eye on a 70's minty red bone one last week & it went for over $100 ! I have a hard time paying that without handling it first ...

You may have just brought my search to a screeching halt! I like a blade with a stiff pull, and good snap, but not overly hard to open.

If you score one and you can't get it open, worst case scenario is, resell it! I've picked up a couple of vintage Case knives that ended up with pulls that were an 11 (on my scale, which requires pliers to open) but I've been able to get my money back out of them even with full disclosure about the tough secondaries. Even with the known issues, collectors are always willing to snap them up.

Sellers are usually good about answering questions like this too, just ask around before taking the plunge...

Happy to oblige, if I can!:)
A Case Tested 6235 1/2P, and a Case XX 6235.
I don't find the pulls onerous - just satisfyingly firm!!
The punch on the HJ is an 8 or 8 1/2, but that is as it should be!!
I put in a comparison with Barlows, which appear to share the same pattern, even though they are numbered differently.

I knew you would come through with a drool worthy Redbone. Simply fantastic (as well as the others of course) Thank you Sir!

Charlie, what is the dark band just above the edge bevel on 3 of the 4 Cases you show? I've never seen that before.

Jeff that blade is a punch. It's one of the grinds that makes its shape. Very like a Robeson punch . . . . .

P.S. What are you doing carrying those Case knives around, Dan!!!!
There should be Simmons knives in your pocket!
(Nice knives, BTW!!!)

Sorry Charlie, I should have been more clear. I meant the 2nd scan, with the two barlows above and below the two jacks. The top three knives have a darker band just above the edge bevel on their opened main blades. It looks almost like they were differentially hardened, but I doubt it. Maybe just a function of the scanner?

My scanner is old and crotchety, Jeff. Anything is possible! I see what you mean; it's the scanner, not the blades. Same blades in the previous pic don't show those lines.

thanks Charlie. I should be, but have been carrying the Case XX 6235 1/2 since quite a while before I started focusing on Simmons Keen Kutters and it is hard to break the habit.
You have been posting a lot of Case beauties in a few threads lately!
Dan

I've never owned a 6235 pattern but I had a couple of its bigger brother, the 6231. Both of those had solid half stops.

Does the 6235 have half stops? John's pics imply that it doesn't but I'm not seeing that in the other photos.

EDIT: I meant to type "John's pics imply that it doesn't.

Local store had acquired a small older Case collection last year, every last one of the several 6235 1/2 had pen blades I could in no way open.
