6235 1/2, my current lust!

I sold the one I had but the Case Swell end pattern IMO is one of their very best. I have found that the most discernable difference in build quality in any of Case's offerings are those that were built prior to 1974.

Mine definitely has a snap like a bear trap. The pen blade has a stout pull, but it opens without nail damage. The main blade is a little lighter but still pretty stout. Half stops on both blades.

I suppose over a lifetime of use you'd never wear out those springs, though.

Well, I grabbed one from the big auction site. Hopefully I'll like it. It's a Delrin scaled one. It definitely has some miles on it, but overall it looks pretty nice. I felt that the price was right to check out the pattern. If I don't care for it, I didn't invest much. I'll post some pics, and my thoughts, when it arrives. -Lance

was there a one blade version of this? I seem to remember some bay folly in my past purchases

The 6235 1/2 was only made as a 2-blade, according to Steve Pfeiffer in "Collecting Case Knives".

Just got an email saying "Lance, great news!" Your item has been delivered........ However, there's nothing in my mail box! :( We'll see how this turns out! Stay tuned...........

Here's hoping it turns up, Lance. I've got a coworker that has the same street address as mine but one block north of my street. Our house numbers are the same and both of our street names start with a C.

The mailman has delivered to the wrong address on several occasions. Fortunately, I get his mail but he has never gotten mine yet. Just waiting for that to happen. I always walk his mail over to his house when that happens and I know he would do the same for me.

Hopefully a friendly neighbor will drop off your package soon. Fingers crossed for you.

Here she is, Rick! I have to say, I think I'm going to really like this pattern. I'm glad I gave it a shot. I'll definitely be seeking out a nice example in Bone. -Lance

That's pretty dang nice, Lance. You picked a great specimen to try out the pattern. Not pristine but not beat up either and that Clip blade looks full. Glad it wasn't lost for too long.

Happy to oblige, if I can!:)
A Case Tested 6235 1/2P, and a Case XX 6235.
I don't find the pulls onerous - just satisfyingly firm!!
The punch on the HJ is an 8 or 8 1/2, but that is as it should be!!
I put in a comparison with Barlows, which appear to share the same pattern, even though they are numbered differently.

Honestly, I am continually impressed by your immense collection. You seem to have outstanding examples of over pattern shared on the porch. That beauty with a clip and punch is outstanding. Thanks for all your contributions.

It just seems that way, rishma. I don't have a lot of knives that are shown, and I'm not looking for them either! I've just been at it a long time - at the geezer end of knife collecting!!
When something comes up where I have a few, I love sharing pictures. Pics keep this place going IMO!!
Hint, hint!!
:D

Can anyone tell me why some of the 6235 1/2s, and the 6231 1/2s, have shields while other don't? Are there any other differences in the ones without shields? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Alas, I can only contribute my appreciation to this thread!

IMG_2166.JPG IMG_2168.JPG Well, #2 arrived today! I picked up a pretty nice bone handled version. These are not my pictures, but instead the ones taken by the seller.

Nice looking knife, Mr. Fort!! How many dots??
Good W & T?? Tell us more!!:D

It's an 8 Dot (1972). The walk & talk on it is very good, moderate pull and nice snap. It does have some minor spotting, not mint, but it's going to be carried and enjoyed anyway. I'm really quite impressed with the 35 pattern, so far. I've always been a Case Stockman and Texas Jack fan, but I'm glad that I decided to try these. -Lance

A good old traditional Jackknife!! Enjoy it in health and wealth!!
When it has a bit of patina, it's more enjoyable to drop it in your pocket, IMO!!

A stout Case knife built with old time quality. The only issue I've had with this model is the pen blades are often thumbnail busters to open. OH

Boy, you aint kiddin' !!! I finally broke down & picked u a Delrin one from '79 & I really like it - perfect length at 3-3/8" long. Crisp half stops. But that pen blade is tough to open - I can get it, but it's a challenge. W&T on the main blade is music to my ears - perfect !

Great pattern ... I've always liked the 6325, but that pattern must have a devoted following & never been able to get a deal on one. I had my eye on a 70's minty red bone one last week & it went for over $100 ! I have a hard time paying that without handling it first ...
I like this pattern of knife but what does the 1/2 represent at end of number.6235 1/2 and mine has 9 dots which if I'm reading this stuff right would be a 1971. I like the knife good enough but things most always have a price.
