I've narrowed my next knife down to these two. Anything I should know about them?

From what I can tell they are the same length and same blades. Guess the real question is straight or curved lol.

And blade number and how they sit.

I tend to like Jacks better, but would personally go with the slim roper because I've been way more into pocketability this last year or two.

That's why I had to skip on the dixie stockmans.

I've been focusing on the 3 blade variety while looking them over. In those types the blades are the same, but yes they sit differently a small bit.

Oops, I was just going off merciful talking about the jack version.

Have you seen the jack and slim in mammoth, though? ;)

You really can't go wrong with either one. I personally like the serpentine frame on the 66 more just personal preference. Both are great knives.

Just saving this nugget:

If it's just coming down to the frame, I'd go #66.

The curves are more fun to fondle in your pocket.

When given the choice, I always go Equal End on smaller knives. It's the older way of doing a 3-bladed knife (Cattle knife vs. Stockman) and looks a bit better to me.

OP,

Two previous threads with further pictures/thoughts that may be of help in making a decision:

GEC #66 Calf Roper vs. #68 Buckaroo?

Difference between #66 Calf Roper and #68 Buckaroo

I love my #66 Calf Roper, including the slight sway in the serpentine frame.

However, when comparing a Buckaroo and Calf Roper in person, I found the differences to be realistically so slight that I now recommend buying whichever pattern/knife appeals to you most aesthetically.

Thanks for the links P

I've found a few threads and have noticed the same thing. A nice member is letting me test pocket his 66. So soon I should know which I'm going with!

I have them both, but found he 68 Buckaroo in purple sage jig bone to be one of my very favorite knives. As others have said, you can't go wrong with either...just find the handle material you like the most. The knives are really the same.

Here are the #66 and #68 frames side by side. The #66 is a Calf Roper Jack in Purple Sage Jigged Bone but the #68 is a White Owl rather than a Buckaroo but will give you an idea of the size & shape. Great size and both are pocket friendly but neither have a half-stop which is a negative for me. The second image is the Calf Roper Jack.

Now I guess I better find what handle material I want and go from there. I was thinking wood, but the jigged bone is looking nice.

The 66 slim is amazing -- great blade length for a frame that simply disappears in the pocket. I have a 3-blade 68 and that's very nice too, but the 66 slim gets my vote.
