#68 White Owl at one month

I really like the # 68 Northfield White Owl, I've carried it for a month almost everyday, I think I left it home 3 or 4 days so I could carry something else. I finally got around to fixing the edge to my liking, it came sharp but dragged through material, and the blade should glide through with its geometry, so now that I fixed it, it feels like mine. So while I was at the stone I looked up at the calendar and noticed it was a month to the day, so I thought pictures of it progression might be nice.

What a cool knife I really love the bone on that one and that sure is a nice patina you have going there! Thanks for sharing the pictures I still need to mark this pattern off of my list one of these days.

Good to see the knife coming along Pete. You've got a really pretty one there. It's a very capable knife that I have really grown to appreciate. The owl is one heck of a knife.

Really looking good Pete!
Did you get the tether worked out to your satisfaction?

Love your Owl's spear. It looks just like my Charlow. Would somebody that has both confirm if the main spear blades are identical?:-)

Thanks everyone

Will I was wondering how the edge on yours came? Mine was a little uneven, but sharp so I used it as is but found it did not like to cut through fibrous materials so I had to address the issue, my benchmark for carbon blades are my Opinels & peanut, for stainless I compare everything to my Laguioles.
Now my owl is just about as sharp as my peanut.

Jwren, my leash I worked out right away, I don't use it all the time but I like it because I know it won't get lost if I'm using it. It's long enough that I can work with it attached, but short enough that if I drop it, it doesn't hit the ground even with the blade open, it is also easy enough to take the knife off if I don't want to use the leash.

Jon there is just something about the look of the Northfield spear point that makes me want to carry this knife, it reminds my of the spear points I have on early 1900's knives, the combination of the shape. swedge, & long pull, screams carry me.

Wow! Great pics of a beautiful knife Pete. I'd say you have the art of photo composition down pat!

Looking good, Pete! Thanks for the update. I'm finally getting used to seeing "my" White Owl in your pictures. :)

Here are some comparison pictures of the blades (though of a Boys Knife instead of a Charlow [same blades in the #15 frame]):

This picture may make me reconsider GEG, and pick up a 68. Those sharp edges on the swedge (as seen in your 15 on the left) are what made me walk away from the brand after selling my 15 only days after it arrived.

Oh, I don't know, Doug. You had a White Owl, you didn't care enough for a #15 to knock down the swedge edges....

GECs just might not be for you-- and that's okay! You sure do seem to have found your sweet spot with your Cases, etc.

There are so many great choices available today, there's no reason to try to like a knife.

'Course, there's also no harm in trying again, and a potentially happy upside. :)

You may be right. I've been through this cycle a couple times w/GEC, and Kevin said the same thing to me last time. Maybe I am just a Case and Schrade kinda guy after all.

ETA, it is the lovely bone of the GEC knives that keeps sucking me in (rust red 15, primitive bone 85, rotten banana 66 jack, and that amazing peachseed of Charlie's 66 BJM special). The bone on you and Pete's 68s is just so lovely!

I just have to say that, due to the plethora of incredible shots of this knife, I ravenously searched for the WO in Autumn Jigged (Spear)...and found it. Could not resist, and cancelled my order for the SFO 85. I can't wait to put the WO in my pocket. Looking online for some unique ideas for leather and bead lanyards in anticipation. May try to come up with a home brewed recipe for a lanyard.

I have grown so attached to my Pemberton. It will always have a place in my pocket. But, between the 85 Coco and the WO, I suspect I may be set.......that is.......until GEC releases another round of the #66 Serpentine Jack....(praying) in Black Olive Jigged Bone.

Sarah & Pete.....you are enablers! Thanks so much.

Man....your ladies sure can pick em!! The second pic at the top sure captures that bone color nicely...beautiful:thumbup:

I really do "need" an Owl with a spear blade and bail.

Course, I also "need" a Charlo, and about 10 other GEC patterns.

I also "need" to get some in Ebony..........................

It really is a never ending list.

I've gotta say, since picking one of these up recently, it's quickly moved into the top slot of all my GEC's for EDC.
The previous top dog was the #15 Huckleberry, but I like this one just a *hair* better. A little slimmer, carries GREAT in pocket, still feels good in hand, and as shown above (great pics, P), blades are almost as long as the #15.
Just fantastic. :)
