#68 White Owl at one month

Wow! Great pics of a beautiful knife Pete. I'd say you have the art of photo composition down pat!

Peter

Wow thanks Peter for the compliment, I use my cell phone for all my pictures, also don't blame me :-) blame Sarah, it's all her fault, she is the reason for mine :-)

Sarah I'm sorry for copying you, normally not my style to do so, but ever since you first posted your beauty it spoke to me, prior to seeing yours the #62 spring green was only on my radar.
As my good friend Gevonovich pointed out my girls take very good care of me and know how to pick out a beauty.
The list from my girls so far, my chestnut peanut that I carry everyday, Northfield #62 spring green, Damascus stag peanut & now the #68 white owl. They have more expensive taste than I do, I'm not complaining.

'Tis reassuring to learn that I've been a force for good in this world.

(Railsplitter + sitflyer --> the #25s becoming my downfall, so this really does go 'round and 'round.)

-- for PJake (and anyone else): the White Owl was my first GEC [we are not counting how many since], and remains in a classy class by itself, quintessential in form and appointments.

At first, however, I was concerned. The blades of #68 have the lightest pull of any GEC that I've handled. In itself, this is part of the knife's appeal, but when it arrived the pen blade had almost no walk or talk. Ruh-roh. I wouldn't have been as worried if it were one of my later GECs, but as a first...?

A clean-out and a bit of oil brought it quickly up to clackety speed. Whew.

I like the #68s very much with their slimmness, great length, and blades. Pete, youre pictures seem to represent the model very very well.

I am going to have to stop looking at this site, since viewing the great photos on here i have bought a #06 Pemberton in Autumn Gold Jig Bone covers and a#48 single blade GEC Dogleg Trapper in Amber Jig Bone, a model i had not considered before and one i would now like to get in burnt stag but as far as i can see unavailable and i have just finished ordering a #68BAL Norhfield White Owl in Burnt Stag, so i shall be waiting impatiently for the next 7 to 28 days for it to arrive, thanks a lot. LOL...

The Owl is a reassuring sort of knife, you just like to carry it somehow! For me the size is right, the weight also. One odd aspect is that I'm generally a great fan of Spear blades: the 15 and 68 sport particularly good versions. But my Owls carbon&stainless all have Clips, I just prefer them on this pattern. The stainless 'acorn' version is more or less flawless but it has mysteriously developed a centre-pin crack, not been dropped or banged either. The carbon ones did have rather sharp spines on the Pen blades, made handling unpleasant and they needed stoning-otherwise superb (Ebony, Kryptonite).

I have 2 of the Tidioute versions already (Rusty Red Jig Bone spear point & Ebony clip point), with one of the Northfield's on the way (Primitive Bone spear point.) Of the 3 or 4 patterns of GEC knives I own, the White Owl has been my favorite. Not quite sure why, but it struck a chord with me the minute I got it out of the tube. Just seems like the perfect pocket knife and it takes care of nearly all of my EDC needs. Doesn't seem like it gets as much love as some of the other GEC patterns, but it's a great knife.
