$69 K31 from AIM, pix of its ID tag

There are devices that allow left hand use.I believe one of the swissRifles guys is working on producing one for sale. There was also a thread that showed a home made version. It is even possible to make one that allows ambidextrous use.

Great post Ad! Love the image of the rifleman, toting his rifle, helping to keep the Naz's at bay...

Kind of gives a little more meaning to my service during the end of the cold war. Even though most of it was in Colorado!

Tom

PS Don't ever buy one of the older long rifles!!

You all have been warned!!

:D

Many thanks, everybody.

Tom, don't worry- the longer ones are $$$!

All right, Steve & anybody. Here are some bookmarks:

AIM. Good guys for everything.
http://www.aimsurplus.com/

WG&A. Amazing quality M39 rifles w/o a C&R needed.
http://www.gunsnammo.com/

J&G. Also good for many things. They have the much-sought CZ52 7.65x25 pistols coming in next week. An example of a good investment, they were $90 a few months ago, then GONE. Want one now, it's a little more @$130. Soon, none. Mark my words.

Classic Arms. I love these guys. Watch for the Rifle of the Day.

Gun guys. A good rep in the community.

Ditto.

Very low prices, but beware. And so-so shipping. Rec. with caution.

So. Ohio. Said to be very good.

More if you want them... I haunt these.

If you have neither a C&R FFL or a dealer sympathetic to your cause, these guys may be able to help you out if they're in the area:

http://www.big5sportinggoods.com/

Their prices are not bad when they're having a sale (every few weeks on any given item) and as Mike will tell you, it can be somewhat nervewracking to buy a 70-year-old weapon based on a picture and description alone -- it's always nice to be able to see it in person before money changes hands.

Dave's right. It's always preferable to pick yours by hand. Bring a bore light & cleaning kit. Luck of the draw is what it is- risky even if only $69 is at stake. C&R dealers I prefer- like WG&A and Classic (and AIM, sometimes) post individual rifles pictures & descriptions (also Empire & Allans). My other K31's I hand picked from pallets of them at Samco in Miami.

If you get a dog, you can send it back, but usually have to pay freight- I guess. This K31 was a good luck-fest. A tag, which some charge an extra $10 for, and the red barrel band indicates a selected match rifle. The stock-blem wood is turning into a pleasant project.

The $49 M-44 from the pages of Shotgun News is many times worth just $49, and may have a sewer pipe for a bore. YMMV, but there is a luck element if you don't hand-pick.

That's why CMP's Garands are putting me off.... temporarily.

When a German asked what the quarter of a million Swiss militiamen would do if invaded by a half million German soldiers, a Swiss replied: "Shoot twice and go home."

This was the rifle.

Steve, depending on where you are in Florida... Samco is in Miami, I had good luck there. And Century (another big one I forgot to mention) is in Delray Beach.

Hi AA:

Delray Beach is not all that far from Miami. I am in Gainesville which makes for about a 6 hour ride to Miami, one way. Florida is one long state.

When I get my C&R license I may have to make the trip down there and pick up some goodies. Or even just order.

Thanks for the leads.
