One thing the northwest has is trees and several different types of maple. The piece I used on this knife has a lot of color to it but doesn't have the amount of curl or whiteness of the east coast type. I'm no expert so I could be wrong.

Don, This was some old W-2. Not the stuff I got from you although I do have a blade made from yours that should turn into a knife real soon. Got big plans for it.
