6x1 wheels

I was given a GMC combination sander, 1x30 belt and 5" disk, 1/3hp and 3600rpm. The motor sounds good. The machine looks like it was used for one project and then let sit in a garage for a decade. It is missing stuff, platten, work rests, covers, etc.

I dont really know what to do with it. I am thinking it might be nice to tear it apart and make a high(er) speed 1x42 grinder. I would want a 6" diameter drive wheel if i do this. I cant find these anywhere. Really, if i do anything, i want at least 5000sfpm, i dont care how i get it. Here are the options i came up with

1) buy a cheap plastic wheel to use as a form, then cast my own aluminum wheel. Attempt to true up by mounting it and spinning it by hand against my running belt sander platten. Attempt to balance it. Mount to motor with an arbor.

2) get a commonly available 6x2 drive wheel and just dont worry about the extra width.

3) get a 2" and 3" pulley and 4" urethane drive wheel from Mcmaster Carr.

4) search high and low for a 6x1 pulley and fill the grooves with jb weld.

5) get 1" aluminum stock and cut out a solid wheel, then attempt to drive holes and maintain balance while reducing moment of inertia, so hopefully i dont have to hand start the damn thing.

6) join a machinist forum and post a WTB thread asking for someone to make it for me and hope i get an offer less than $50.

Hopefully someone here has a better solution than what i have come up with.

Jeezgod! Hope Springs Eternal!
Randy, I've been on here a long time (absent for years until of late...), but as far as enthusiastic people go, you get a gold star!

Guess I would go for number two.
