hi everyone- i need to purchase a 4x36 or a 6 x 48 belt sander for some specific wood working. i find them to be easier to true up a block then on my other sanders. Anyone have any good suggestions. i was going to just go with HF but thought id ask around to hear from people with some experience with different name brands. thanks you-Marekz

I've done all of my work on a Craftsman 4 x 36 for the past ~4 years (I'm slow and a rank amateur), but it is still going well and does everything I ask it to. It can bog down with too much pressure but you should not need that much anyways. I got my belts from Supergrit I believe and they made a world of difference. Can't help you with a comparison though.

I've got the HF 4x36 that I use a lot on handles and the thin down blade thickness.
It's well worth the $40 or $60 (can't remember) I paid for it. It gets a lot of use around my place.

I had a little King Canada 4x36 sander and after grinding out a half dozen or so blades, the little teeth wore right off the little V-belt. I returned it and got a 6x48 which was much better. I use the 6x48 every time I'm in the shop. It works great for flatting up wood blanks for scales, rounding off corners, etc...
