So I'm just waiting for the email or call that my custom fixed blade pocket knife is done. Never owned one although I do have an izula I throw in my front pocket on occasion. The izula is only about 6.7 give or take just wondering if anyone has any insight on how this will fit in pocket. It will have a leather pocket sheath with clip. Also the blade steel is a2 which will be a first for me. I know it has 5 percent chromium so I'm just wondering how much maintenance it will need?

As far as how it will fit in your pocket, I personally wouldn't want to carry a 7.5 inch knife in my pocket.

I am sure it will fit fine, but comfort and pocket space (especially with a sheath) would not be good for me. I would do it if I was going on a hike, but I prefer a dangler or something I can wear on my belt for that.

Everyone will have a different opinion on whether it works or doesn't for them, but I can tell you that extra inch is gonna seem like a mile...

A2 is an excellent steel that under normal conditions requires very minimal care. The Chromiun is enough to keep it from issues that something like 1095 could possibly have, however it's not a bad idea to keep it dry whenever possible.

Thanks for the information the izula goes right in my pocket but this one I expect to peek out. Hopefully it's not too long but worse case scenario I'll just get a belt sheath. I figured a2 would be a little better then 1095 that's what the maker prefers to use but I thought ease of maintenance and edge retention would be just a bit better?

A2 isn't that touchy in my experience, but I wipe down whatever I carry at end of day.
As far as carry, I am a big fan of KSF back pocket sheaths. You can put a small flashl8ght or dmt folding sharpener in the other slot.
Kind of a handy set up...

Wear deep pocket jeans like Carhartt Carpenters or other work pants. It will fit well. It's a custom and you'll love it and it if it does peek out, that's OK because so do most pocket clip folders. Whatever doesn't fit perfectly you will forgive because it's unique and 100% yours.

Pics, please!

One I finished yesterday... CPM D2.

My Bradford Guardian 3 is almost 7" & I don't think I'd want to pocket carry anything much bigger wearing jeans. Now cargo pants or Carharts would be a different story.

Go to your local home improvement store and get a paint atirrer (free) cut it down to 7.5" and see how it fits.

Edited :
A2 takes a keen edge and has quite a bit of toughness to it. If I recall correctly it is a slight amount less tough than O1, but is a bit more wear resistant.

After your done usingnit, take a quick swipe on your pants to give a cursory "clean up" and pocket it. When you get home, rinse in the sink and rub under running water to get any stubborn bits off, dry it well, then hit it with a bit of oil for storage over 2-3 days unless you live in a tidal salt water area.
If that is the case, a quick swipe with mineral oil after drying is all it will need.

Enjoy it and post up some pics.

That looks somewhat similar to my design honestly. Except mine has a wider blade with almost a full flat grind and is as mentioned a bit bigger. Great work btw looks like a handy little knife and the micarta looks nice and comfy

I've pondered this quite a bit myself. I decided that I need a maximum 7" to 7.25" knife for this to possibly work. Anything smaller and it won't fit my hand well enough to be worth it. Also I think it needs a very minimal sheath to make this work. I haven't seen a leather sheath that works, most of them add too much bulk including length. My plan if I found a knife that I thought would work would be to make a kydex sheath for it, a one piece taco style. I would form the end of it so the sheath is barely longer than the blade tip, and careful positioning of rivets and the way the sheath fits the end of the scales would keep the knife from going farther into the sheath to expose the tip.

My normal wear is Wrangler Jeans and even a 7" knife may not be completely concealable in a front pocket. It might be sufficient for normal use in my area though. The only obstacle to me is that i normally carry my cellphone in the same front pocket. Now some of my cargo shorts may have larger main pockets and when wearing them on weekends I don't care if the knife is totally concealed or not.
