Toronto Knife Knut luncheon!

Whew, I finally made it through a knife knut luncheon without cutting myself!!! Although I did have plenty of opportunity to get cut given that there were several hundred knives on scene! This was our most successful Knife Knut luncheon and BIG thanks go out to RAYE, who helped co-organize the event and Murray & Phyllis White, our gracious hosts!

Now for a list of attendees:

Knifemakers: Darren Chard, Eric Elson, James McGowan, Brian Russell, Douglas Speck, George Tichbourne, and Roger Toner

Forum moderators: RAYE and Hilton Leo

Knife Knuts: aerius, cockroachfarm, RogerP, RL, TRUST, Murray White, Phyllis White, and wyrm

The success of our event is not so much rooted in the sheer volume of knives present, rather in the variety. I would say that our first three events catered to art knife lovers while this event, the first joint BF/USN effort had an even mix of art knives and tacticals (finally!!!). It was great to see the likes of Brend, Emerson, Strider, and Onion alongside Fisk, Walker, and Wolfe (among so many others). And, of course, it was also great to see the work of our local talent!

So, without further ado, onto the knives! Let’s start with the work of our local makers (then we’ll move onto tacticals, art knives, and candid pics)…

We were all stunned by Darren Chard’s FIRST fixed blade

James McGowan (mcgoo7) brought along a great assortment of tactical/utility fixed blades

Brian Russell brought three fixed blades (on the right side), including a great little fixed blade in Dendridic cobalt

George Tichbourne is currently working on a new series of folders…here’s the first piece

And here are a couple of shots of Roger Toner’s ivory tanto

So, that about covers it! Thanks to Roger, cockroachfarm, and Murray for the great pics. Thanks to David Dempsey for sending down some knives for us to look at (that was very thoughtful). Thanks once again to RAYE, the Whites, and everyone who attended! I had a great time and I hope all of you did too! I look forward to seeing everyone at our next event the evening prior to the Canadian Knifemakers Guild show in mid-April.

Looked like a heck of a good time!:) A-LOT of nice knives there. I am wondering, is that an original Maringer Vorpal in the 14th pic lower right? If so somebody has a very cool knife!

You might have a meager collection but I believe it's quality over quantity so you have a good nice collection so far.:D

Oh yeah, knice score on those two spydie dive knives. Very very cool!

Thank you!

Yes, that is an original Maringer :) (not mine though)

Here's a closeup of my Spydies...(they're huge, BTW)

Awesome group of knives and people!
You folks look like you were having tooooo much fun.

Hey Rl,

Looks like the event was a big success. Wish I could have been there in person. Did Ray let you play with his new Zounohana I sent him?

Glad all had a great time and maybe I can join in one of these days.

Robert this is the best post I've viewed in a while. What a GREAT day! (Robert emailed me privately to join him. Heck, it was only a ten hour drive--worth it!!) Sorry to have missed out.

Your commentary is vivid and adds character to each knife and person. It's all about the people, right! Well, almost... ;)

Hey Murray, you have a MUSEUM going on in there! What a great home. I commend you on your displays and diversity!

And lastly to all that great talent that showed their own stuff. Cool.

Thanks again!

Coop

Thanks once again RL for a great report with excellent pictures. Some wonderful knives and I get to put a face to some of the people that I have had contact with on the forums and by email. I find posts like this incredibly entertaining.

Thanks David, Coop and KWM.

Too bad you could not make it Jim...maybe we'll see you at the next one in April...

Sorry I missed this one, hopefully I can actually make the next one... :footinmou :grumpy:

Thanks for the post RL - that event topped the Superbowl by a country mile! My thanks to the organizers and to the host and hostess.

Cheers,

Roger

Whoa! I was pleasantly surprised to see my little "El Camino" working knife, and see it categorized among the "art" classed knives. What an honor. Thank you.

LOL...I hope you don't mind Terry...cockroachfarm had a "little talk" with me about calling your Tactical 1 an art knife (and I'm still limping)...the glowing temper line (is it ok to call it that, roach?) is very cool!
