7" OAL fixed blade about perfect for EDC ?

Hi new,

I'd love to get my hands on the TOPS Scandi Trekker to examine it in person. It might be cool as is (albeit a lil' longer than 7").
I mostly own "Drop Point" knives but I'm open to a different blade shape.

I don't pretend to be any kind of expert but have you looked into Murray Carter at Carter Cutlery *dot* com? His neck knife and outdoor knife range are fantastic, though a little dear.

7" is kind of a tricky size- lots of makers scale down their larger knives and they end up with fairly thin and light knives, hard for me to hold onto. And for utility use I want a blade that is fairly thick. I've always thought that 7" or slightly less is something I could carry in my jeans pocket. I've seen some of the TOPS knives that were interesting to me- the UTE, CAT, Lil Bor and Blue Otter for instance. If I had the cash there are plenty of BRKT models that look really interesting.

If a person is not going to carry the knife in a pants pocket then I would suggest going a little bit bigger than 7" OAL, the reason being to get a handle that is big enough to hold onto.

Hi all,

Lycosa, I know in the past I have researched/seen (and must of been impressed) as I recall the name "Daniel Fairly". I will check out DF again. Thanks.
Rap, the same goes for the name "Murray Carter". I know this name! If I'm not mistake, I think MC made a Canadian Belt Knife that was beautiful.
bdmicarta.....yes indeed....7" OAL knife is very tricky/difficult for a good fit. I don't "pocket" carry a fixed blade but rather (horizontal) belt carry/strong side/handle forward. I can VERY quickly access the knife "reverse" grip. My lil' "Nick Rossi" EDC disappears on my person using this method of carry. My EDC is only 7" long INCLUDING it's Kydex sheath. I could maybe go just a bit longer in the handle.....say.....1/2". That being said....I do have many larger knives. I absolutely agree with you regarding handle size. I always err for more handle than blade length. This one pictured/link is 8" OAL with a 3.5" blade and a 4.5" handle. Beautiful Brian Efros Custom Canadian Knife per my wishes. It should be awesome for the Woods but, too heavy as an EDC.

The 4.5" handle on this Efros is wonderful! I have XXL hands.

The Bark River - Woodland Special is my most carried belt knife.

It's size, and the sheath I use, make it unobtrusive in my daily activities.

Thanks Lycosa,

Ummmmm.....for under twenty dollars, I might just have to buy myself the BUCK 140 on general principle alone. Thanks.
