7 or 9

What do you 9 owners and users think about convexing it? I usually convex everything and it seems like the big boy would benefit from the extra metal behind the edge. However, a big convex chopper might tend to "glance" a bit. Your thoughts please. I would love to hear Ethan's thoughts on this as well, if anyone knows of a post with that info in it. Or better yet, if the man himself would chime in on that subject.

thanks,
randy

convexing is the way to go if you are going to do brutely chopping jobs, batoning, and blunt force trauma. you can of course tune a microbevel for more bite if that's your kink :)

I went for the 9. I've already got 6- and 7-inch blades, so I decided I'd get the 9.... first.

Thanks. I'm going to give the factory edge a whirl, after all, it's obviously a good one. I like the "bite" when cutting saplings etc. If it rolls or chips I'll convex it and have a comparison to share.

thanks again,
randy

While the 9 is a better overall chopper, I still like the 7. Anything beyond six or seven inches triggers the 'machete' instinct in me.

Great video man. Made my jaw drop to see you break out the full auto. Good stuff.

I've done a fair bit of chopping with my 9, even put it head to head with a trail hawk. I'd say I don't think it needs convexing, It's perfect just the way it is.

And +1 for poor-fish on ebay
