7 to 9 inch survival/camp knife?

that was one i really looked at.and its under $50 but kabar stopped making it
(or at least its not on their site any more).

boy thats a shame...but im sure you can find one online in stock on another knife website, just gotta look around i guess. i dont really have much experience with any other fixed blades but i borrowed a friends heavy bowie to baton some logs and it worked really well

i did find one online for 48. which is a really high value for the cost.

I personally like the Beckers, but admittedly most of mine have been the Camillus made ones, although design-wise, they're pretty much the same.

I've had 2 or 3 of the Ontario Spec-Plus models & they worked just fine, too. I've only had original Ranger Knives, but I imagine the Ontario Ranger Knives aren't bad, either.

If I were looking for a good, solid largish FB (7-9"), I'd probably get a Becker BK7 or 9, although I had a well used (By me) Ontario SP8 Machete that was an excellent chopper.

Good luck on your choice.

I don't have one. I've just done some research on them and they look good. I may end up with one though. There are still some with the piggyback knife out there. If not, the little knife is only $8 by itself.

if you can get it with the little piggyback that would be hella nice. i mean the potbelly is awesome by itself.

a friend of mine has both of them. and that little knife is awesome well worth 20 dollars. it works great for cleaning game.

im personally leaning towards the kabar large heavy bowie (1277). maybe string my becker necker to the sheath. and of course wear the becker remora as a neck knife.

dude the new becker necker (which is my all time favorite knife) has one of the best sheaths for the price.way better than the old one.

ive never see the spec-plus series.ill have to look into that.

i would love to get a bk1 brute but it isnt being made any more.

thanks for the input man.

i've never used a kabar, but i am sure they are great knives. i currently have a RAT 7. does the job...and thats what matters =)
