Between 1978 and 1992, the shield logo on the scales remained the same for Aitor multi-tools. The image below shows an early production model and the differences in the logo design...

Believe so yes, but don't recall any blade etch & the name on the handle (Rosewood?) much more discreet , soon faded. Stainless liners & spring, carbon blade. Came in that kind of crush-proof plastic box yes

I was surprised to see that Aitor was still offering these spring-fired models in the 1980s.

And that's because you haven't delved into IHER, the Basque company that preceded Aitor. For instance: during World War I, they supplied equipment to the warring armies. Their designs were heavily influenced by French (Thiers) and German patterns. For its part, Aitor has produced a vast number of different models and has supplied knives to various armies and international organizations. Their multi-tools are even cited in SAKWIKI. Today, they continue to manufacture quality pieces in Ermua.

Although, in the red series, I'd obviously go with the 60s and 70s Victorinox/Wenger knives 🤣

I have just acquired a 'Maestro' 90 mm; for reference, it appears in the 1992 Aitor catalogue, although its production began in the 80s (if I am not mistaken, it was also called the 'City' as an export model). The 'click' [of the backspring] is just like a victorinox, and it comes with its original box...

Bandera-Eibar.png

The Eibar coat of arms, the city where manufacturing first began. They are currently manufactured in Ermua (Rehabe S.L), 14 km away. Between 2006 and 2014 (approximately), the brand's manufacturing passed into the hands of PIELCU (Albacete). However, the brand eventually returned home. As the story goes, Rehabe tracked down as many of the former workers as possible and recovered machinery from the pre-Pielcu era.
