710 gold class and Sebenza... hmmm

Yes thanks, I've seen them, but they are mostly Damascus steel. Mostly for showroom exhibitions. Wouldn't see myself carrying a Damascus blade around :).

Besides, real Damascus steel only exists in museums, what we have is replicas of the lost formula. Don't have much experience with those steels, so not sure really how good they are.

what do you mean "real" damascus?

I just checked out that gold 710. SHAWEEET!:D That is one good looking knife.

Yeah same here, main reason why my strider hides in the drawer. The 710-101 is an extra sexy blade:)! The Seb on the other hand looks like its ugly sibling to me, I'm sure its quality all over but on looks alone the 710-101 is what knives were meant to be ;)! Anyway to me :D

Damascus is an old Middle eastern recipe for steel, but the craft was lost during the 17-18 century. Was almost legendary back in the day for its extreme cutting proprieties. What we have now are steels that have some of the properties, but they are not exactly the same thing. What they call Damascus nowadays are metals with relief and designs on them...

Hehe no disrespect :). It is a particular design and has some very high grade components, just didn't feel the design too much, to each his own hard to discuss taste :).

For my taste I would of liked some extra curves, a polished Titanium (not a fan of the gray handle) and maybe some cool locking mechanism. But its really aesthetics and everyone likes different things...

Exactly, what I really like about the Sebenza is that it is perfect in it's simplicity. Nothing really there that isn't useful. They make much dressier ones but for a user that knife is it for me.

Exactly and I can understand that! Was toying myself into buying one, just on looks alone I liked the 710 more, but again its really a personal taste matter more than anything else.

Wow! I'll take the BM 710 Gold - All Day!! Too bad I can't pay that much for a folder - I can't justify it on my budget, but for those who can it looks like a no-brainer from here.

Thanks for the pics! :)

i too would like to see the comparison of a standard 710 and the 710-101

also, as far as damascus goes, i didn't know that. i guess i assumed that since they looked the same, they performed very much the same, if not better due to the technology available...

how sad is it that even today with all the fancy gadgets, we can't even match something made thousands of years ago!!!!!

i don't really have a regular production anymore as i changed the blade ...
but if you put the blade of the bottom one on the one bellow, you have it

I fondled a 710-101 (Gold) at a local knife store and something didn't feel right with the handle. It's obvious a lot thicker (the way the liners and the carbon fiber are being slapped together) than a regular 710. The fatty handle felt like you're gripping a tennis rocket only with rough edges. It wasn't ergonomic at all. Just my $0.02..
