72 hr survival kit?

Make that a 'zippo' type lighter, if a butane lighter gets cold enough...it won't work. That happened to me on a winter hike, it was in my pack and usless when we needed it to cook lunch.
I keep an E-Kit that has the zippo, a space blanket, G.I. bootlaces, dayglo construction 'ribbon', firestarter cubes, a candle, folding mini-buck and a compass in an ammo pouch. This is just in case I get misplaced. Never lost, just misplaced.

Tuff,

If you're in New Hampshire, definitely a water filter and container are better than carrying water. There's water practically everwhere in them hills and mountains. Take a good size khukuri too, for shelter building and firewood. A Zippo works fine, provided you keep it in your pants pocket to keep in warm and functional. But, the old film container with wood matches and several birthday candles ain't bad either. Of course, strong string or paracord.

P.S. Week long solo treks in the White Mountains in early spring and late fall were my "cheapo" vacations for years and years.

point taken about a Water filter. They are not cheap thou, will have to save up to afford one of those. Appreciate the links as well
