74mm Victorinox SAKs

Ice-cream scoop is the missing idea it was needing, yes!! I would buy the knife described any day of the week!

As to this thread, glad it is bumped up, because it has happened before, I am pretty sure, Victorinox choosing to bring back/keep the 74mm line. I remember first getting into knives, they were all "discontinued" according to people.

I understand the price is there to keep the model in production at all, and I respect it, I just hope Victorinox could find a way to make the model slightly more affordable for the USA, I mean, I understand up-marking it a bit for the quality and unique tooling required for some of the tools. I think that puts people off of trying the size, when lots would love it.

Found a couple more used Executives on the auction site for acceptable prices - the NIB ones are through the roof. Somehow ordered a Climber, too.

One of my new used ones was very cheap, and when it arrived, looked like it had been a dry-waller’s who used it like a rented mule and never cleaned it. Tools were bent, main blade and nail file covered in dry wall mud, and the first time in my life I’ve seen rust on a modern Victorinox - I’ve been around them and carrying them for over 4 decades, so this was a real surprise.

Everything cleaned off quickly with some damp 0000 steel wool. The curved out of alignment tools (mis-crinked) were adjusted with the judicious use of force: I used a large and two small drill bits and the jaws of my bench vise (padded with duct tape) to straighten the bends out.

Cutting blades were also dull - never sharpened since the factory and used and used until they were sharper on the sides from burrs rolling over than the “cutting” edge.

A few minutes with a fine diamond hone and then an extra fine ceramic hone and they are shaving sharp.

😂

Could be a Victorinox strategy, to keep their fans guessing.. I don't know of any official "discontinued models" list or anything like that..
My theory is that they have the price up there and constant guessing to hide the fact that the 74mm is the sacred secret perfect leisure SAK. I don't know why they would keep such a knife at such a barrier to the public... maybe it is too powerful?

Though, I tended to judge it on whether it still comes up on the Vic website, which scarily, only the 84 version does. It could mean they are out of stock for now, as it says no online retailers (though they are around, new and used, here and there. I hope you are right!!

There's a black cellidor 74mm Executive on Amazon for $81 (!!!)

I'd like to have one, but not that badly.

You could also check what it'll end up costing you with shipping from some European retailers, they're easy to find online, brand new..

Some offer free shipping for orders of $150 or more, so you could do some shopping for other SAKs/accessories etc, & it'll end up costing you $40+, that's for the Executive.

Just an idea..
