That is cool  Thanks Will.I guess I have untill thanksgiving to replace the ol lady's turkey pan :D

Wil -

how durable is bluing ? Does it make a knife rust-proof to the same extent that
making it out of stainless would ? Does it scratch easily ?

very nice tutorial, what grit finish are you suposed to go up to on the blade before blueing?

I usually go up to about a 600-800grit hand rubbed finish. Most the time I etch my knives before I blue them, and then I rub with a brillo pad. Then I etch.

Has the salts started cripping out of the pan yet????? You can use a old rusty cast iron pan to get a copper color on the blades.;)

When you guys build a blueing station keep it safe. Caustic salts have ate right through a few pairs of leather work boots when I used to blue guns. Eye protection is a must,I'd recomend goggles, and have a bottle of vinegar handy to neutralize any that gets on you. When the tank runs hot and you add water there will be a fine mist that comes out and it gets all over everything including your exposed skin and hair. The vinegar will make you fizz up but it keeps the stuff from eating your skin off.

Thanks for the post on safety, I really tried to stress this in my tutoral. It is dangerous stuff, and you should do everything to protect yourself.
