76" belt ?

OK. I'll admit, I'm new, but this seems really strange to me.
I just bought a 2x72 Grizzly grinder with a 10" wheel. I set it all up with the provided belt, no problems.

I ordered some other belts for it and found I had to lower my arm assy to put them on. I had to lower it enough where I could only use one of the arm lock screws, the other was too low.

So, I started measuring stuff, and found the belt grizzly sent me is 76" long. The ones I ordered are 72", as they should be.

Did they send me some weird longer belt, because I ordered the 10" wheel?

I don't get it, I don't see 76" belts anywhere on the net, but I promise I have one.

Anyone?

....don't know about grizzly. On a Square Wheel with a standard drive wheel,
you need a 75" belt if you want to use a 10" contact wheel. 72" is right
for a 8".

Thanks Russ.
I suppose it could be a 75" belt, that I have.
So, that means this is normal for a 10" wheel? Why do I not see 75" belts for sale anywhere? Methinks they would be common, no?

BTW- I checked out your website. NICE, NICE, BLADES!!! I love that perfect squarish "meat" in front of the bolster. Dang, that is cool...

...not sure how common they are or need to be. I modified my
Square Wheel by drilling and tapping a single hole back a couple
of inches, so the tool arm for the contact wheel was back enough
to accomodate 72" belts.....no more need for two belt sizes.

I'm not familiar with the Grizzly. It may be that there is a way
to adjust for different contact wheel sizes...??

crj1988,

I vaguely remember having the same thing happen when I got my Grizzly. My advice is to adjust it for your 72" belts and use the 76" belts like sand paper. the belts I got with mine wore our really quickly.

The next thing to do if you haven't already, is to replace the graphite pad on the platen with a glass one. I got mine from Darren Ellis great guy to order stuff from.

I did have to true up my drive wheel a little when I got it. Instructions are in the manual.

Have fun and grind away (but not your fingers)!

Thanks all. Yeah, I've got it set up and working well with 72" belts. I just thought it was weird. Yeah, that graphite pad is kind of lame, thanks for the info on that also. I did have to true up the top wheel as well, and I added a spring to the tension also (slipped a smaller sping inside the one it came with) it is running straight and true now. Ground my first blade! :O)

All responses much appreciated!
