Congratulations to the winners! Thanks again Charlie for the opportunity and knowledge shared.

I'm the big winner here, with all these kind words! I'll just say you are all welcome, and I'm happy to be able to share my passion for traditional knifery!

Fausto has a good idea for the winners! Please post a pic of your winnings in hand, and maybe a little review!
I've been looking these knives over, as I get ready to ship them, and they are good examples of their types - I hope you all like them!

"They'll always come back around. All ya gotta do is wait." One of our forum regulars said that to me a few years back when I posted a thread about a knife I regret not buying. Another knife I let get away was the Scagel #8 Daddy Barlow. At the time it was more money than I was willing to spend on a slipjoint. By the time I was ready to buy one, they were no longer available. So I kept an eye out for them on the secondary market, without any luck. Until now. Today I received as a gift the very same knife I had been looking for.

This barlow is a whole lot of knife. At 4.75" closed and 8.75" OAL, this knife is no shrinking violet. I don't think it'll do as a regular pocket knife, but it should work well as a picnic knife. It'll make a great replacement for the Laguiole my wife claimed a while back. This barlow has a flat ground 1095 blade that came sharp, although it needs a little more fine tuning to get the edge the way I like. Walk and talk is just right, and the hole in the blade makes it a cinch to pinch open.

I just finished oiling it up and took these pictures.

This is an awesome knife, made all the more special because of the way I acquired it. Charlie has been an incredible resource to the forum, and more importantly a friend. He's always shared his hard-earned knowledge freely and willingly, even with this dumb lug who had nothing to offer in return. Thanks Charlie!

That's very nice. I'm really glad to hear it went to somone that appreciates it so much. You can't ask for more then that with a giveaway. :)

That's a big hunk of Carbon steel! And nice looking too! Your pictures are way better than mine, Christian. I got to select that knife, so it was the brightest puppy!;)
Enjoy it in the best of health!!

By the way, you owe me a penny!!:D*

*please give it and the postage to a homeless person!

My #6 combo fixed/folder came today, but it was rainy and gloomy all day so no pics . . . YET!! Stay tuned . . .

Charlie, it is really a gorgeous knife, and quite unique with the folding clip in the handle of the fixed blade. Nice sheath, too. Thanks again!

Hey Christian...awesome photos...but there was something missing in the photos....it took a while for me to realise what it was!!....and yep...I knew...it was my house, and my belongings in the background that were missing lol.

Looking forward to Jeffs pics.
Good on you Charlie.

That's easily remedied. I snapped a quick picture this morning Duncan, in your honor. Hope it makes you feel better. :p

Great looking pics, kamagong! Congratulations!

-Also, my "thanks for the chance" post is late but: thanks for the great contest, Waynorth. Hope all is well in The Great White North :D

I actually don't know where Duncan lives. Maybe I spend too much time here, but I've noticed that a lot of the members here have a pretty identifiable style when it comes to their pictures. Duncan has a thing for knives and trees. My picture above was a poor imitation.

Your observations are right on, Christian. But I can't let a good chance to joke with my friends go by! There must be some nice New Zealand woods by Duncan's house!

Man, those are awesome Jeff. No offense to your glamor shots Charlie, but these guys pics really show how nice these prizes are. This has to be the best giveaway I have seen.

Everyone takes better pics than me! Ah well, it's tough to pose things on a scanner. You should see my family portraits!! (cymbal clash/bass drum hit!):D:D

But seriously folks, Jeff took some nice pics. That is a nice looking knife.
Apparently William Scagel made about a dozen knives with a small folder in the handle. And they sold for as high as $35,000!! In later years of course!!
Enjoy that knife, Jeff*!
