Hey all,
Trying to sell some dandies here to pay the bills. Accordingly, they’re priced to sell. No trades, thanks.
Ben Seward J. S. - Checked Damascus Hunter
Blade - 5 1/16”
OAL - 9 1/4
Handle: Checked African Blackwood
Steel - w core ladder damascus
Hey all,
I have a really fine unused, un sharpened presentation grade Hunter here from Ben Seward J. S., a great maker and a heck of a guy. It’s also ready to use!
We worked on this design together in 2015 to get a bushcrafty blade shape for backwoods use, with enough belly to handle other work.
The checked handle came out really nice, and is contoured to fit the hand reassuringly.
A nice damascus guard, partially fluted, marries the blade to the handle. The knife is perfectly balanced right behind the guard.
The ladder damascus has nice chatoyance, and the blade has a wonderful distal taper. It’s screaming sharp.
Pants from Ben’s dad. Elephant overlaying veg tanned leather, tooled, and lined with deerskin.
A really classy package, unused and uncarried, direct from maker.
Asking Price: $spf for insured conus shipping. I reserve the right to refuse sale to anyone, but first I’ll take it here or in dm gets it.
Ben Seward JS "Vengeance" Prototype
Handle: African Blackwood
Steel composition: 1075 (I think!)
Dimensions - 14" OAL, 8.75" blade length
Hey y'all. Saddens me to do it, but up for sale is a lightly used "Vengeance" Prototype I picked up from him in Little Rock 2014. I believe this to be the first prototype for this model, which became very popular.
Elegant and aggressive kukri esque blade shape with a looooong unsharpened clip, a beautifully sculpted blackwood handle, a lively hamon. The fittings come together beautifully with the lines on this one. It only has a couple backpacking trips under its belt, with some scratches and a little spotting commensurate with a few wet nights in the woods. There is a noticeable but seemingly stable check in the handle, pictured here, from a long dry winter in an NYC apartment in 2015 haha. Hasn't changed at all since then. I’m sure Ben would refit it for a small fee, if you chose to go that way
Comes with a beefy, gorgeously rendered sheath featuring exotic inlay and fine tooling/carving from Ben's father, David. Locks in securely as it should.
A really compelling package that it pains me to get rid of.
The image linking isn’t working, but here are some videos and images of the spotting and check. Paid around $900 for it.
Asking $spf for insured shipping in the continental US.
John Doyle Cowboy Knife in Rosewood
Specifications
Blade Length: 5 7/8"
OAL: 10.75"
Thickness: .25"
Steel Composition - 1095 (pretty sure)
Handle Material - Rosewood
Hey all,
I have an oldie but a goodie here, probably from 10 or more years ago. It's a handy, nimble cowboy knife from forum favorite John Doyle for most of your backwoods needs.
The blade is ample, features a nice consistent hamon, a gorgeous long clip, and carefully rounded corners for enhanced comfort. It's seen very little use and has some patina to show for it, but aside from a few light scratches, its lovely matte, hand-rubbed finish is largely intact. It's got it’s original edge, and still very sharp from maker. It's a really light and lively knife in hand, and packs a ton of blade into a small package whilst still maintaining balance. It’s got a rounded spine for enhanced comfort with heavy use.
Grooved damascus guard and spacers, and thin spacers of german silver marry the blade to the handle.
The handle is rosewood, rather delicate in proportion, but really comfortable in hand for me. I'd steer you clear if you have large hands. It also features 3 grooves at its waist, cementing a visual theme established in the fittings. The butt is also grooved, a signature Doyle move. The rosewood has darkened considerably with age, and is rich and satisfying. Full tang construction is secured at the butt by a gnarled screw. This is not a takedown and I wouldn't recommend fussing with it. I certainly haven't.
Includes handtooled veg tanned leather sheath, skillfully executed by maker.
Overall fit and finish is outstanding. If you’ve ever held his work, you know every detail has been carefully considered.
A great working knife with a lifetime of use still in it. Purchased for $750. Asking $400 insured con US shipping.
Thanks for your consideration
Seth
