8" and 10" contact wheel ?

I just ordered a KMG and now I'm no longer sure about what size contact wheel I should get.

I'll definitely have a 14" wheel because I like the shallow hollow grinds.

Now my only question is if I should get a 8" wheel or a 10" one as an addition.

I guess I'll mainly use it to profile blanks, contour handles and do a more dramatic hollow grind on daggers or fighting knives. I think the smaller wheel also helps in getting the more sweeping, round Ricasso lines.

So somehow my gut says 8" but on most forums the majority of knifemakers advocate the 10" wheel. Does that hold true when you have more than just that one wheel?

What would you guys go for if my main hollowgrinding wheel is the 14" one?

Looking forward to your opinons :) .

Marcus

I wish that I had wheels from 16"-18" (if it would fit)(14" is about max for 72" belt on KMG) on down in 1" increments ;) At the moment I use a 14", 10", 4" , 1-1/2" , 3/4" , flat platen & a roller platen. Like I said, I wish I had more as they all have a place ;)

I have a 14", and a 10". These allow good flexiblility, I am happy with these 2. Having said that I have not used an 8".
