8" Shiv

Is it certain, that there will be new ones?

Nothing is certain. Nathan can decide tomorrow that making knives is for the birds, or get hit by a gravel truck. What I can tell you is he said they are not retired, but as you can see he is not working on them right now as far as we know. Maybe next year when he retires the FK? Let the rumor mill turn on that one!

Good idea. The shiv was my first knife (and second favorite right behind the dagger) by Nathan and over time, I bought every one I saw in the exchange. Unfortunately I didn't hold on to but one of them:grumpy:

I've sold 3 and kept 2. I completely understand.

Thanks, I was confused by "wait for the new ones", sounded like it's certain.

You are welcome. Nathan is a man of his word, so long as he says they are not retired, I believe him. Just that things can change, and we have no official date, so there is a risk attached. But knowing the FK is working it's way out now, I know the SK will be coming up. Nathan does get burnt out on a pattern, so IMO he will get through the FKs work through the EDC batch, then the SK and a few LCs along the way. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the fighter patterns come back then. Hopefully after that, the folder will be out, but maybe the medium chopper first? Just my opinion based on wild speculation with no official word of anything. But a guy can dream.

A bunch of steel came in this week that will be a big batch of EDC.

I'm starting development work on an optimized 4V HT.

We have a bunch of Light Choppers on a mill now.

The Survival Knife will be the shop's next big project.

I am also working on a major one-off custom in my own time.

I want to have a balanced 12" Heavy Chopper soon

A folder stays on the white board, it's just a matter of finding the time to properly do the development work.

I will probably make a few Shivs for the Blade Show next year. But I doubt I'll do another big batch of them soon.

Thanks for the update Nathan. Maybe I can see about attending BladeShow for my first time. Wish they moved it around a bit rather than have it in the same place year after year. What about us on the West Coast, all those ballers in CA?!

Worst case I will have to ask someone to come to your booth!

folder design work has gone well, and models will get made over the winter

my models will be made from popsicle sticks, macaroni noodles and white glue

Apparently I have something nifty from CPK awaiting my arrival home. Pretty excited to get to fiddle with one of these blades. Nathan, I promise to blueprint it, straighten out all the inconsistencies and flaws, and properly sharpen it.

:D

...how's my raisin peeler coming?

Excellent Troll. I hope your Father is doing better and finally good to see you on here!

Now seriously Lorien, after spending all that time on that new Pfeiffer shuttle piston system that includes the auxiliary pump assist linkage with parallel footing? It even has that auxiliary pump assist linkage built into the rear portion of the mechanism in case the auxiliary pump assist linkage loses forward distance thrust of even as little as 1mm , and activated when forward momentum is reduced by only 2% or more. I mean, geez.

And even that new side venting system at the front, treated with clear tritium (think white dot gunsites) to allow the air about to pass through it a more visible pathway, exiting the vents on the top hump and bottom end:

Now seriously, after spending all that time, gosh.

And to think I gave you those macaroni noodles in good faith, thinking you were hungry.

I had the munchies. But there's work to be done

Sent an email through the forums, guessing it got spam foldered. I was wondering who did the leather sheath in this picture? I will be needing one similar to it. Thanks!

Sorry, never saw it.....Mr. Paul Long, Leathersmith Extraordinaire. :)
